Tides to craw.

It's a serious question and a noble endeavour.

Since the inception of GATT we have struggled with the issue of profanity.

Currently, it isn't allowed on the forums, GLs, nor the mailing lists.

We are a little bit more liberal on the GATT chat channel though. It's not good to have EVERY single aspect of the association under total "kiddie safe" vibes.

Also, I can understand your concern for cordial play. Smack talk is not fine for everyone, nor is strong profanity. Some people take offense and we have seen emails come to GATT admin about it.

My personal compromise, not being a vulgar person myself, has been the proliferation of acronyms instead of the actual words. MC, IYMC, HYMC, etc.... It has the same "effect" but without the vulgarity.

Good luck with this.

Thanks for the insight, Baego, and the words of encouragement. I will persevere. I'll be expanding my recruitment to the Jamaican gamers soon.

Just because you didn't say the word doesn't mean you didn't say the meaning.  It's just less shocking when processed through the human eye and/or auditory system.
Hypocrisy!

If you have to say it....just say it....don't try to cover it up with 'roses'!  It's not that I don't curse....I do (not often)!  And you will have no doubt about what I said when I do!!

that is precisely what I said computerman, but just that you used bigger words. lol

it is hypocrisy if you don't want to curse....but in this case you want too....but just not to offend the average person who doesn't understand the acronym. It's like a coded message. The message is sent, but only read by people who know the code.

hehe, I thought cussing was an integral part of gaming.
What good is a total victory without the whining and cussing of your opponent ? =)
There's no true lan party w/o some serious cussing - and that is good.

The key is to control it - and I know many gamers have a problem with that
and start taking stuff way too seriously.
In heaven all the interesting people are missing.
