I've looked into mini-itx solutions. Mini-ITX with the Via CPUs are very
slow and not worth the effort for the price.. the Board & CPU (typically
1GHz, but cant pentium III 1GHz for performance) are more than the
cost of a Micro ATX board and Celeron 2.0GHZ CPU- you are really paying
for the small size. If you have no real requirement for a small form
factor PC dont bother with the Mini-ITX, its too expensive for the
performance.

No arguement there. They do not perform very well when compared to a
2Ghz + proc. My model has a 533 Mhz processor and 128 MB RAM. What you
are paying for is size, low power, low heat and the quiet..

How big is your monitor now?

Else you might as well go for an iMac. Small, quiet, low power consumption
and heat generation. Oh, and it takes a noraml IDE HDD.

The combined footprint and size of the mini pc and monitor is more than that
of the mac :-)

I second this, in my exprience the C3 chips performs poorly under Linux for any
"near to real time" applications. Having lots services/apps running while in
X may the system unresponsive and unusable. However, these proccessors perform
reasonably well under XP. The better option is still the Mirco-ATX with a
Celeron processor.

Nowhere..
the only source is online, the price runs between $250 and $300USD
depending on your components and quantity.
If we can get enough people interested we can probably buy enough to
drop the price to $250 for a decent spec..
