shuttle XPC vs Fragbox
« on: May 31, 2004, 01:43:17 AM »
For anyone who wants a small.. mobile.. light gaming machine.. look here...

Shuttle : pros
light , PSU can handle alot of pressure [ even though its a 200-250 w]
fairly cheap, fast chipsets

cons :
cooling sux [ internal temps can reach 50 C !]
requires extra money for bag to be as portable as Frag Box

Frag Box : pros
light, portable, FAST! , cooler than shuttle

cons :
price.

theoretical shuttle build :
P4 2.4 C 800mhz FSB , H/T
 2x 256mb crucial
Shuttle XPC SB65G2 [ case, power, board with 865PE and dual channel]
9600xt
2x cheap 80mm fans [ cut some holes!]
thermal grease
LCD 15 inch
DVD/CD-r combo
120GB seagate SATA
XPC travel bag
Total cost plus shipping to US port : 1254 USD.

Cut 2 holes in the sides of the case, on to blow air in on the bottom, and the other on the opposite side, on top to blow air out. Will help keep case temps down. Once this happens , you can overclock the P4 to 2.8GHZ EZ, and if the shuttle heatsink is THAT good, 3ghz.

Frag Box specs
System Specs:
IntelŪPentiumŪ4 2.66GHz 533MHz Front Side Bus Processor - IntelŪi845 Chipset

nVidia GeForceFX 5600 Ultra 128MB Graphics Card

1.44MB Black Floppy Drive
Intel USB 2.0 controller 4 Ports
1394a Firewire controller with 3 Ports
10/100 Network Interface Port
Digital & Analog 6-Channel Sound
Microsoft Windows XP Home
nVidia NVDVD Dolby Digital DVD software
Emergency System Recovery DV

Cost with 15 inch LCD : 1560 USD.
No need to worry about modding , but not as fast even at stock speeds, you will pay more.

you choose...........................

I've been an avid follower of the SFF scene for some time.

I love the AMS e-cube housing (which is the one used in the Falcon Northwest Frag Box)

Especially the black unit. My only problem has been finding one running the Athlon 64 or Intel I875 chipset.

Don't care for the 865 nor the 845 (which was great in it's time, but it's a bit long in the tooth now)

Now it's not fair to just lump "shuttle sff" against the Fragbox.

Shuttle has many many various SFF boxes. Varying in shape, size, power supply, temperature, the works.

Which one exactly are you squaring off the fragbox against?

Let me be so bold to suggest you run it against the SN854Gv2 (scary that I remembered the model # correctly off the top of my head)

read more about it here http://www.sudhian.com/showdocs.cfm?aid=537

This is one of the newer Shuttles and it comes with an Nforce3 motherboard, supporting AMD 64.

Let's see how the fragbox compares then.

The Frag Box man..that floppy drive can come in pretty handy there...oh and btw can you substitute a 9800xt for the 5600 ultra?
Righteousness can only be acheived by one who has good intentions and a non-biased perspective...hence the only alignment for a true paladin is neutral good and not lawful good.

hows the cooling in the nu shuttle?

Trinidad could easily become a large manufacturing center for stuff like cases, drives, fans, power supplies.... the labour is cheap and the market is easy to conquer once you bribe all the review sites....

Trinitech I think you have a screw loose somewhere dude..........Anyway Shuttle for me I like some control over what's in my system.....and from all info read the SFF systems are usually a 2nd machine for most people that own one.
I would just buy a Lan Bag for my cool tower and 15'' or 17" LCD Monitor. Cost you less !!!!!!!!

lol @ shuttle 2.0

the lan bag thing is an idea  but you can't beat these mini monsters for portability and coolness factor with the girls.

The real ultimate option though is a gaming laptop. That is serious dollars. Lotto iymc

i'm 14 going on 15 :P.

All the trinis wil be doing is spray painting the cases, and screwing stuff in..... EZ stuff.
We are already smelting iron, and soon to be smelting aluminum... raw materials will be cheap.. labour will be cheap but it will pay more than CEPEP..
