Everything Wii U
« on: June 14, 2014, 01:49:16 PM »
Made this thread to address any and everything Wii U, questions, comments, etch etc etch.

Was looking for the appropriate place to post this and didn't quite find one, so i start a new thread.

Well I finally got a Wii U yesterday. The Nintendo E3 2014 hype, and the constant pouring of gasoline on that flame by the likes of Berzerk and Redlum has caused me to impulse buy a Wii U locally.  :yay:

Only paid 30$ US extra compared to importing, so ain't too bad.

My Initial Impressions:

This game pad is sick! Every console should have one. It's a really nice concept and the functionality it adds really is something special. Have not played any games with it yet, Zelda HD just finish dl so ill check it out soon, but so far its great.

Right now I have 2 problems with the Wii U, that preventing it from being truly great.

1. Netflix, why o why couldn't the Netflix experience be the same as Windows / Xbox, this is a major sticking point of the Wii U and needs to be addressed. With he game pad it makes everything nice and easy and id love to start using it for Netflix instead of the Xbox one (reducing the Xbox One to being purely a KI box for me). But the WIi U Netflix don't support user profiles, it don't support watched position syncing across devices, and I'm not seeing things I added to my Fav list from pc/Xbox on Wii u. So that's one major gripe.

2. The game pad itself, though epic, needs some advance functionality. If I play a video on YouTube, the same video is played on game pad, and there is no way to take off the game pad I could find. If I'm playing NSMB, the game does be played on game pad as well with no way to take it off. Basically wasting battery for no reason, so I relocate the game pad charge to be right next to my couch. I'm able to browse other YouTube videos on the pad whiles its playing on the TV, which is the intended purpose and it's great. But there needs to be a way, or a button to press somewhere, to just put the game pad to sleep, without turning off the console.

That's it so far.Great lil system, with some refinements it could be turely truly epic. But the Nintendo 1st party lineup alone makes this a must have machine regardless.

See you guys on the track!

Does the TV remote feature work for cable/ local TV here in T&T or by you?

The Wii U gamepad works with most TVs. There's a section in the Wii U's settings where you scroll through all the brands & find your TV then sync the gamepad with it. I've seen so many brands there that it's ridiculous. A lot of them I've never even heard of, & they've got all the big brands. The gamepad can do almost anything with the TV that the remote does. In fact I've yet to run into such a thing. Whether cable or local, it doesn't change the functionality of the gamepad, it'll still work with the TV. I don't know about it working with a cable box. Btw as you can tell, I'm in trinidad.

I don't know if it works with my TV but I have a pretty popular tv so it should, but it's irrelevant for my use. Because all my tv doing is acting like a monitor. My receiver does everything, and the gamepad is not compatible with my receiver. so the "TV' button is completed wasted on me.

Wish I could just press the TV button have have my DAC come on and go on the correct input though., That'd be great.
Because I have my dac set to turn on the tv, amp, and woofer. So if could get that TV button to turn on and off my dac, gg.

I find it shocking that we did not have a Wii U thread before...with games like Mario Kart, Smah, Xenoblade and Zelda...

Was actually thinking the same thing when I made this thread.
And it have some old stickiest form the WII days, that could get bolt out now.
Let me see if my account have the rights to make the correct adjustments, if not, an admin can do the honors.

I'm thinking sticky of ID's and This Thread.

For persons wondering about the whole Bayonetta part 1 being bundled only with the digital version.

There was a time when the Wii U simply cost too much for the amount of great games it had on the system. There was also a time when Nintendo TVii might have been a big deal. (This was around the same time!). That was the past. That was a past when you could merrily skip the Wii U and be ok.

Today, however, if you skip the Wii U, you're missing out.

Please recognize that we don't make console recommendations based on the future. We're not telling you to grab a Wii U now because there's a Smash Bros. a few months from release and a gorgeous open-world Zelda farrrr out on the horizon.
