Digicel LTE
« on: January 15, 2014, 03:30:29 PM »
Ok, so I don't know how long this going to take to reach trini. But in my neck of the woods (Cayman Islands), digicel has launched their LTE network (Real 4G, not that fake 4G crap that was launched before and touted as 4G). I've driven around the island and run various speed tests, have a looksee:

All tests ran from my Lumia 1520, and I'm loving it, BOOM!

got damn

That is fast

Any caps? Or unlimited?

Cause you could run through a 5gb in a day with that.

Caps, base plan is 2GB, then there is a 4gb, 6gb, and a 12gb.

I was on unlimited PhoG (Fake 4G :laughing7:) before. And I'm paying the same rate for the 2gb plan.

My data usage on my phone was 800mb per month on ISP, something like 7gb per month on WiFi. So the 2gb plan should be good for me, since I've not be using that much data over the cell network. But, this thing so dam fast, I does find myself not wanting to use WiFi Networks anymore. Because fiber not laid down everywhere yet, so most places 10meg connection is d max u getting, so this LTE eating lan internet for breakfast.

I have a 5GB limit on my plan and haven't hit that limit yet. I do about 2GB with modest usage but if I was getting those sort of speeds you posted, I'd consider getting rid of a land line and doing it all via the phone. lol

Already proved that a game of DOTA is playable over a tethered android device (even via the wifi)

That was with a ping of 160+

You are getting 66ms! That is phenomenally fast

No unlimited packages?

Would love to see the pricing on one

No unlimited packages, and you'd be hard pressed to find unlimited package for LTE in any country.
And gaming fps over WiFi very much lags, so I wouldn't trust my gaming to an LTE connection.

As far as pricing, I suppose our prices would be higher than the trini prices, but are as follows:

Unlimited PhoG : $40CI
2GB 4G LTE : $40CI
4GB 4G LTE : $60CI
6GB 4G LTE : $80CI
12GB 4G LTE : $96CI

1 CI = 7 TT

lag isn't as big of a deal in some games.

As mentioned, I was able to play and win a game of dota over "4G". lol

Your LTE stats looking significantly better

That's why I said in FPS games.... in DOTA sure, but in a twitch shooter, or fighting game, that eh gonna cut it.

1800mhz

LIME (our version of bmobile) using 700mhz

So if you US phone, LIME, if you International, Digi. I'm in luck, since digi is my carrier, and I got international 1520, if had got the US Unlocked from amazon would have been screwed.

Boy, I know this sounds weird, but I now feel like I using a smartphone. It now feels like the futuristic beast it is. Cause as fast as your phone is, it can't outrun your internet connection. So now is juss pace!

Niceness. Well we just recently got 3g down here...doubt very much we gonna see LTE any time soon.

Just now sink in that your mobile connection have less latency and is faster than my cable modem connection!!

Messiaah, I don't think you're understanding me.

The latency and speed you're reporting is better than what we achieve currently with our fixed line connections.

So yes....it will be fine for FPS games as well. lol

Spaz hinted at it.

We get 90 - 120ms latency to the typical FPS game server

And definitely agreed @ high bandwidth on smart phones. Before, I would only use my smartphone while on wireless for any sort of browsing. EDGE offered an absolutely unacceptable experience.

4G truly opens up your appreciation for these devices and their capabilities.

Scene,

And you can forget about the LTE gaming dream for now though. Carriers actually headed in the opposite direction, introduction not just monthly caps, but daily caps, and bandwidth caps depending on time of day, etch etc etch. Them carriers rel disgusting, seriously. So we go see. Fiber is the way to go for the foreseeable future of house internet. Cable is fine too, but the upload bandwidth just too low on FLOW right now. We have fiber here now, yuh getting 100/10 connections here now. In the states u can get 100/50 or 100/100 if u want. Easy. FLOW need to step they game up. And mobile hada stop sticking and make the fiber service they have live and nationwide.

Well TSTT (LIME) and Digicel idea of 4g over here was 2.5meg, that's why when these carriers first launch "4G" I tell man don't get fooled, that is not no real 4g. Ah digicel REP had come on GATT and run he mouth talking shit when I had say my partners in d states getting 50meg to they phone easy, and he ball bout they must be was right under d antenna and all kinda shit. Real 4g was never actually launched in the Caribbean, they just market it as 4g, real 4g is LTE.

So I wouldn't be too worried if I were u, because we had d same crappy "4g" up here too. And with 1 upgrade, we went from 2.5meg to 50.

LTE sounding very promising

But the bandwidth from the island would need to be upgraded to suit?

Because if everyone getting those sort of insane speeds, we would need a HUGE pipe out to the internet.
