Hmmm! Look at that price! Well so much for the argument about the 1020 being around the same cost as something comparable like the Galaxy S4...That's a over $250us premium!!

.....or better yet, nearly $700us more than a Nexus 4!!!!! I mean sure, it has a good camera but that is just stupidly expensive.

These maybe more reliable links those 3rd party sellers usually hike prices on all new handset releases including android handsets the price is comparable to other feature phones and with historical new handset values give it a few months the prices will drop but 635 isn't bad at all

Guys stop being ridiculous... The device has barely been released to more than att (most unlocked suppliers are still on preorder) and is selling for between 200-300usd with a plan which is what all regular high end smart phones sell for at launch

Wait for the device to become mainstream and stop gawking at price, all high end smart phones are comparable at this price on initial release, much less for a revolutionary device... Hell when the iPhone 5 release it was 800+usd..

You could swear allyuh dont know that's how it works already eh

And correction, d iphone 5 was a whopping 850$ US unlocked at launch, in non-US countries like germany, those guys paid 1000US Unlocked for the phone at launch.............. lol.

I can get the 1020 from my supplier for 750US Unlocked (which is what i normally pay for a flagship at launch), and the fact it replaces a point and shoot, that is rel bess price right there. And like phoenix say, give it a few months, that price going to drop easy. I paid 750$ US for d 920 at launch, 6 months later man buying it for 300$ stueps, ridiculous, but thats how d industry works.

And d surface didnt sell because of the price..............seriously guys? lol.
No windows rt tablets sold, non. Windows RT quite frankly buss, lol. Event if it was cheaper (like it is now) it wouldnt ah help them much. That's ah different kinda battle they fighting they, price is only a small part of it.

I'll agree to that, the launch prices of all flaghship smartphones is ridiculous, isolating the 1020 out of the bunch and doing like it alone is overpriced is not fair, at launch, they are ALL overpriced.

In an article by the Financial Post analyst company Canaccord Genuity revealed that their August retail checks found Windows Phone was doing relatively well.

They found gradually improving Windows Phone 8 smartphone sales due to strong sales of the Lumia 520 and other mid-low-tier Lumia smartphones.

Surprisingly however the rather expensive and niche Nokia Lumia 1020 was also doing well.

“We believe Microsoft has recently worked more in concert with Nokia to drive sales, as evidenced by Microsoft’s advertising campaign highlighting the Lumia smartphones and features, and the Nokia 1020 is a top 3 selling smartphone at AT&T,” Canaccord analyst T. Michael Walkley said.

Earlier this week we saw Amazon.com run a special one-day sale on the 41 MP Nokia Lumia 1020, reducing the price to just $199. Now, AT&T has followed in their steps and lowered the price from $299 to a much more affordable $199 on contract. Off contract price has also dropped to $609 from the higher $659. All three colors, including matte yellow, matte black and matte white qualify.

See ppl, price drop aready. Another 2-3 months, gunta price.

ebay and those unlock sites sometimes when its really new you have to look around but almost all of those unlock people are the carriers workers doing their thing on the side it usually takes about 15 - 30 mins normally if they have to make a request for it might take a couple weeks maybe less

Just read the article ... AT&T doesn't want ppl to unlock their phones ... because that means ... they will go to other carriers so I know their policy used to be you have to wait 6-8 months before you could unlock the device without contract people with existing contracts usually have no problem getting the codes for example when I bought my Vivid I couldn't get an unlock code at alllll... bought it no contract... took about a month to get the unlock code...

Omg why keep comparing price of phones that have been released for months, with a phone of far superior tech that has only been barely released.

Go compare it to the s4 launch price... Only early adopters that could afford to swing cash buys brand new unlocked high end devices... Most of the regular folk like you and me usually wait a couple months

dont single out this device... at launch ALL unlocked high end smartphones retail for a ridiculous price...

D iPhone unlocks and gs4 unlocked at launch from them was 850 and 800 respectively....

So 1. Your allegid unlocked price is not accurate.
and 2. Like phoenix point out, d phone barely have time to get out d door and u want to compare it with phones on d market for months? I say give it a few months it will drop to d same price as all them others.

and a good point and shoot costs 3-400$, yUh replacing that with this phone as well.

It quite simple, if yUh want d best camera phone in d world right now, pay yUh money, if u willing to wait a couple months (like most ppl typically do), yUh get it cheap.

But nothing, I repeat, NOTHING is wrong with the 1020's price. Its no different than any other flagship launched in the past 3 years, it actually cheaper at launch than most others.
