Decided to make a custom rack mount unit to hold all my current and future pc / networking and av stuff, thought it might be interesting for you guys

I have the side panels already just trying to figure out a way to add some spare cold cathodes I had to up the coolness factor (velcro most likely)

Lol, yes it's always been a dream of mine, I love the techie albeit unnecessary side of it.

Buying a proper unit was out of the question for me way to much $$$. You can get rel good deals in the states but shipping would mean me giving up some testacles.

I began experimenting with some 12u rack rails from amazon, I was very skeptical about how well they would hold up, but after using one for a couple of months I am more than satisfied with them. (I initially had them secured to a couple 1x3 pieces )
NOTE: I still wouldn't put any one item in excess of 30 -40lbs ( large/heavy cases and ups stuff at the bottom )

For the current set up I got 4 12' lengths of 2x4 and a 1/2" sheet of ply and 4 30" cupboard doors for the front

The rack is 7ft high and 25" deep 21" in width (longest thing I might want to put in it is 26" but went with 25 to ensure door clearances when moving around) , plans are for two side panels and leaving the back open.

I added some draw slides to make a DIY keyboard/utility tray and another heavy duty slide above that for a possible slide out pc case
