Wyatt, I think this dream is closer than we thought

Quote
Microsoft Studios vice president Phil Spencer reaffirmed the company's commitment to PC gaming in a recent chat with Shacknews, revealing that the company has several core gamer-focused first party projects in the works for Windows.

"We probably have more individual projects on Windows than we've had in ten years at Microsoft Studios," Spencer said. "At the launch of Windows 8, we had about 30 games in the Windows Store. A lot of those you'd consider lightweight or casual games... But we've covered all of that property now. Now we're starting to look at bigger and core gamer things. I'm excited by that."

While Microsoft is currently focusing on its upcoming console launch, notable Xbox One projects like Titanfall and Project Spark are also slated for a PC release. Spencer notes that cross-platform interactivity and content-sharing will be a key component of Microsoft's strategy going forward.

"For us, we're first-party across all Microsoft devices," Spencer explained. "We definitely think about ourselves that way in our studios. If you think about a service like Spotify or Netflix, you expect that service to work on any device you have. For some games, it will be similar. I just want to have an Xbox Live account and it works on my phone, on my console, and my Windows machine. And then I'll be able to access my content in a screen-appropriate way."

Boom!

Wow, well I knew Sony was courting indie games. Something I balked at, not seeing the relevance of Super Meat Boy on a next gen console.

Shows what I know....they have laid eggs and now the PS4 is boasting a list of titles coming to the platform that will make the PS2 blush (the console with the most games ever)

Check out the list below, I'll wait.....it will take a while.

Got DAMN!

People understand more....and simply, the PS4 is going to give you more....much more titles. Microsoft has to balance this scale somehow. Fast.

I love Halo but it won't be enough to stem the tide.

One could argue that indie games are a bunch of crap compared to the Triple A titles Microsoft has on the burner....but I won't be the person to say that.

@ vice, yUh posting something that not even live? Really? Pico rejected :laughing7:

@wyatt, we already discuss in great detail why what u post dont matter in d long run, not feeling to reiterate that whole convo, so ill just respond here with a few highlights.

1. Indie games don't sell consoles, tripple a titles sell consoles.
2. Quality of games and overall experience > plenty indie games
3. MS not worried bout Sony, they real competitor is apple and Google, which is why they pushing not just gaming, but living room, entertainment and digital hard. Their vision is d future, consumers just wasn't ready for it, so they had to scale back, but that is where everything go be, a future I'm afraid Sony wont be ready for.
4. MS play is unified ecosystem leveraging their power across d board, 3 screen one platform vision. Buy one game and play on any screen u want, backed by core MS services, Skype, SkyDrive, xbl, Kinect, etc. whether it be pc, x1, or wp. Sony cannot compete on that landscape, regardless of how much Indies they get.
5. Everybody said the first Xbox would flop, they said Sony will cut they ass, MS entered a business where Nintendo and sony dominated the market, and became profitable in a business that sony not even making money in....
6. MS eye on apple/Google/mobile, and valve getting beatout by accident. They steamos will flop. Windows is d future of PC gaming, which is still growing, and going to get even bigger next gen. A platform MS quadrupling down on.
7. I'll also like to add that Sony does not understand d mobile gaming market, the vita is a big flop.
8. If Sony partner with valve and do something mannish so, then they go be able to compete on that big scale. But I dont see that happening either.
9. To throw a few numbers out there, the console market is about 250million customers, d mobile market is 2.5 billion. MS knows where the future is, and they making sure they ready for it. Sony will get catch with they Pants down, Just like PSN, its why for all d free games they have, xbl still a better online service. Also I remind ppl of the epic fail that was d 2 month outage of psn.

Microsoft is positioning theirself and the xbone to be an integral part of ur living room experience, by which they can more effectively provide a hardcore market for publishers and not just loose to the mobile revolution. The Xbox one feels like a new console, a new vision, a new plan of attack, the PlayStation 4 just feels like a faster ps3.

We go see how it all turns out, I dont see either of them going away anytime soon, but my money is on MS. They have the uncanny ability to start with a loosing product, and end up making it highly profitable, regardless of how much time and money it takes.

Ok, reviews starting to come in for Xbox one games. And as promised ill post similar content here as I did on PS4 thread. Kinda busy today so I'll post as I get chance to read. I'll start things off with Killer Instinct:

I was fully expecting this game to get a very low score, seeing that it's effectively an incomplete game. (they only start production last year). With just 6 players at launch, 2 more added in January and March, story mode to come in March, and Season 2 in September to add another 8 players. I know it would face a hard review out of the gate:

Even with all the stuff missing, IGN still found it fit to give this game a 8.4

Kotaku:

http://www.joystiq.com/2013/11/18/killer-instinct-review-content-breaker/

But the key take-away from this title is this:

Quote
Because the combo system powering Killer Instinct is so simple to grasp at the top-level, yet pushes players to input commands with urgency, it toes a great line between being accessible and offering depth for dedicated players to mine. After learning the combo mechanic, it becomes an act of filling in the missing pieces of the puzzle; a matter of optimizing combo chains and set-ups for higher hit counts.

This makes Killer Instinct a delight to play and a uniquely enticing proposition to fighting aficionados and genre novices alike. And even though it's mostly about big, flashy combos, Killer Instinct doesn't make you feel helpless when you're the one being pummeled.

They manage to get the most important thing right, the core fighting mechanic. The other features that missing that cause it to get rate down are coming eventually. And being FTP for first character, and 20$ to acquire the entire Title. Is not a bad deal. This is the first time I see a game going to be so severely fragmented in it's release. Is like a game released over the span of a year. Interested to see how it all works out. But what most important to me is there, it's why I bought the console.

The lack of Multi-Player lobby at launch is RELLLLL CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Though. If they at least had that, id be perfectly happy. That's one thing they going to have to add and SOON! Because 1v1 ain't gonna cut it for long.
