Dungeon Defenders
« on: February 01, 2012, 01:41:12 PM »
I've been playing this game for about a month now with my brothers and some friends and i can safely say it is a great game. Very different from your normal tower defense with just the right mix of features. If it goes on sale again I would encourage people to grab it. Even at it's normal price i'd say it would be worth it. Easy jump in and jump out online co-op rpg. Can't go wrong. They also release DLC regularly and patch the game every few weeks. You can look up some more vids on youtube to see more of the gameplay.

W1nTry, Redlum, Jarrox and Agokillya even abandoned MW3, BF3, GOW3 to play this game on 360 =p

Available for PC on Steam, Gamersgate, Gamefly, Amazon
Current price: $14.99 USD

Also available for PS3 and Xbox 360, not sure of the price.

Latest PC patch notes: http://forums.trendyent.com/showthread.php?30004-Current-Patch-7.16

Quote
Dungeon Defenders is an original hybrid of two hot genres: Tower Defense and cooperative online Action-RPG!

The game puts players in the role of one of four distinctive hero classes, tasked with fending off hordes of invading beasties by strategically summoning a variety of Defenses & Traps throughout their castle. But as much more than just a strategy game, players directly participate in the action-packed combat with their hero characters, while upgrading their statistics, gathering tons of loot and inventory items, customizing & upgrading equipment, and developing unique class abilities. All of this can be enjoyed in seamless online and split-screen local multiplayer, as players cooperate and compete through the story campaign and challenge missions to build the strongest heroes and achieve the highest scores in the kingdom.

Combining the depth of strategic gaming with the satisfying action of RPG character building, in a beautifully stylized ‘toon fantasy setting, Dungeon Defenders is designed to be a distinctly addictive, easy-to-play experience for casual and hardcore gamers alike!

Oh i forgot to mention that a lot of content that is available for the PC is not available for the console. Not sure why but thats the path the devs chose. *Victory to PC gaming!* lol

The console version, as described by W1nTry, is also slower and the "grinding/farming" process is more tedious than its PC counterpart. Mainly due the controller not having enough buttons for all the commands u have available to you. There are some key features on the PC that are missing on the console, most notably the absence of the "Store" feature where you can purchase gear and item from other players. Seems to be one of the most troublesome as well since u have to find ur own gear on the console. There are some more disparities but going into it, most ppl who arent familiar with the game wont understand.

W1nTry and Jarrox have it on both xbox and pc. U cant compare 2 completely different games like that Wyatt. Dota is moba, Dungeon defenders is a rpg/tower defense/RTS/FPS lol. Its a nice change in pace i would say that much. There is a demo available for ppl to try on Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/65800/

Won't hurt to give a demo a go wud it?

sweet @ demo

and yes virtue, you can of course compare games of different genres.

For example, I find Tekken (a fighting game) better than Gran Turismo (a racing game)

If you give me one hour and a PS3, guess which I'm gonna play? lol

So I ask again...given a choice at 9PM on a sweat night....would you choose Dungeon Defender over Dota 2?

Or it only (as you're suggesting) a change of pace. Something to play when you're fedup of the good games. lol

If men buying it on two platforms....that sounding much better than a "distraction" game to me.

Its a good game. And yes i have played Dungeon Defends over DOTA 2 several times. Crackers cuss me for it but i wanted to play game with my brothers for a bit. Its really only good when u have ppl to play with tho. Playing it by urself, like DOTA, is boring for the most and less fulfilling

Played it over Dota 2?

That's good enough for me.

SOLD!

Might have to wait till March (27 days to go). Planned to release the freeze on purchases then. Will see if it could be facilitated before.

Still have to make way for that Anti-Saxman upgrade. More power, more power.

lol
