Price too hot for me... and for those that have Core i5/7 already remember this requires a socket aka motherboard change.

Anyone who has the dough to ress down on one of these isnt going to be thrown by the comparatively silly price of a new mb.

But yeah...Sandy bridge E is officially here.

Just for the lower end to come out. Still have my mind set on Ivy Bridge in 2012 though.

Here's a nice little of the new stuff.

Intel could keep them thousand-dollar CPUs.

I'll wait for the 300-dollar ones...and I'm not rushing em when they come out either.  I'll wait for the usually more efficient 2nd stepping too.

Whats more interesting is if they'll have k versions of the cheaper versions, if not tough love iymc. And though you're quite right a man willing to shell out 1k + on a cpu won't even bat ears at a 300USD mobo, however I was referring to the majority of 'price sensitive' ppl on GATT. We just don't have pockets deep enough to sheel out 300USD on a mobo every 6 months. The next important point is, are you getting THAT much performance difference over your LGA1366? is it worth 700USD+ ?

No way.

Bad news though is that according to that anandtech article, s2011 versions of the ivy bridge cpu's arent going to be available till late 2012, early 2013 which leaves the x79 in play for only a year as top dog.

Perhaps i'll just do another graphics upgrade when kepler drops and put off the platform upgrade another year.

^^ heard a rumor online about that as well..

i glad i got my sandy bridge now, i believe it is the best upgrade to have at this point, as for you and even arc, so to others here, the 1366 platform is a solid platform, agreed on your choice to upgrade video power for the time being, is always a good option.

Wake this ched up!

Upgrade time is here again. With the news of Ivy not bringing out 6 core processors and 4 cores lived it's life out the window, x79 men fall in and take a read!

Yeah, that X79 Sabertooth real couf, but at 300+  US, Asus could keep dat.

I was holding out, hoping that the price would drop like some of the other X79 boards, but it just ain't happening.  I may just have to go with the P9X79 instead.

Or... I could just upgrade my GPUs again and call dat Arcmanov.  :laughing7:

Decisions, decisions.

...but tell me Chiney, do you seriously need to upgrade your present rig?  Isn't it seriously killer as is?  It usually takes me about two to three years before I consider a platform upgrade, and even then, it's not totally necessary.  Why the sudden hard-on for X79?

Lol.  'Holic' lock away in a deep, dark dungeon out of necessity yes.  Baby-babes, bills, and school are his chains. :laughing7:   (in that order)

He only gets 'parole' at Christmas bonus time.  :laughing7:

Seriously though, I actually canceled my 3820 purchase.  I wanted to upgrade, but I took a long, hard, and realistic look at the rig...and decided I really didn't need to.  I'll do my customary GPU upgrade at year's end.

The ol 920's got some life in 'im still.  :)

Bro, you make valid points. But it is not a sudden hard on nah.
I just LOVE hardware and it so happens I can afford it time after time. ( Thank God for that! )

Computer high end has always been my weak point. Until the good Lord presents me with a chic, child and my own family to watch over, I will continue in this said direction man.

With that being said, I raise you this :
