well at first I was getting a "cannot find extender" error msg, i restarted both wmc pc and xbox and ensure they are on the same subnet, and now im getting a "cannot setup extender".
I then turned off my (only) firewall and still had the same "cannot setup extender" msg.
I went to MS support site (
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows7/Tips-for-solving-setup-problems-with-Windows-Media-Center-Extenders#cannot-set-up-extender) and they adviced to Enable multicast and UPnP technology on your network router , but i have no router.
so i then added wmc to the firewall both in and out bound with all ports allowed and still got the same "cannot setup extender".
i then checked Network Sharing Media Streaming Options to see if windows is seeing my xbox, but nope it's not there.
i then check MS site again (
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911728) for which specific port should be opened, and i found a table with ehshell.exe, svchost.exe, mcrmgr.exe, mcx2prov.exe and system and i just stoped there cuz i dont wanna open ports that i dont know about and i still think the problem is with the upnp or multicast on the switch.
btw, theres nothing wrong with the pc or xbox they use to work well together in the past, i just re-installed OS and switched ISP, (remove tstt adsl modem).
Im thinking a router will solve this problem, but why am i getting this problem in the first place.
