Turtle Beach Ear Force PX5
« on: March 23, 2011, 06:49:27 AM »
Forget the AX Pro (Tritton)... I think this headset might be THE most epic-est winning-est
yet from Turtle Beach.  Found it quite by accident while trolling Amazon

The feature list speaks for itself:

Customizable Presets - Configure up to 18 personalized presets to optimize game, chat and mic audio for different gaming situations

Dolby 5.1/7.1 Surround Sound - Immersive 360 degree audio lets you hear the direction of every sound, as if you were playing with speakers all around you

Digital RF Wireless Game Sound - Uncompressed wireless digital audio signal achieves CD-quality game sound that rivals professional-grade wired headphones

Voice Morphing - Disguise your voice by changing the sound from deep lows to screeching highs

Dual-Pairing Bluetooth Wireless Chat - Chat wirelessly on the PlayStation® Network, answer mobile phone calls or listen to streaming music from a Bluetooth enabled digital music player while you’re gaming

Dynamic Chat Boost - Chat level increases automatically as the game volume gets louder, so you can always hear the voices of other players

Microphone Monitoring - Hear your voice in the headset, so you won’t have to shout to hear what you're saying

Sonic Silencers - Enjoy total silence by eliminating ambient noise pickup on your mic and cutting background noise from PSN or Xbox LIVE chat sound

Sonic Lens + Sound Field Expander - Widen or narrow the sound field to focus on audio cues that are difficult to hear like footsteps sneaking up on you or the click of someone reloading in the distance

Interactive Voice Prompts - A voice announces critical headphone status conditions, such as battery low, preset numbers, and more

Ear Guard with Blast Limiter - Limit the intensity of deafening game sounds such as explosions and gunfire to reduce ear fatigue during long gaming sessions

PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 Compatible - Delivers the ultimate gaming experience with Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles

More details at Turtle Beach.

Yep...that's TWO bluetooth radios.  So you can be chatting away on PSN and can still
take a call on your cellphone at the same time.  WINNING!!!  :laughing7:

...and the TOSLink input means that you can pretty much use it with all consoles and the PC.

This kit pretty much puts my Tritton AX 720 to SHAME....so therefore I shall be getting one
as SOON as I can afford it.  :happy0203:

...this from a man who buys 500 US-dollar cellphones like some of us buy draws,
and went Pricesmart for celery, and come home with a 40-inch LCD TV.

For this kind of 'convenience'...?  Totally worth it in my opinion.

Who say it doesnt support pc? Because it does. It has line in (3.5mm jack) and toslink input which means that pretty much any audio source on the planet can connect to this thing.

I seeing platform PS3 and Xbox 360.

even if it does, its not being marketed as a pc headset, which means its primarily optimized for consoles.

TB makes good products, but do check if its' simulated 5.1/7.1 because last I checked they don't make REAL 5.1+. This could be the first. Still great products and the additional features are a plus, though on my Sharkoon I can be on mumble AND XBL at the same time, i've done it before. 200+ for a headset imho is a bit much. I went with my sharkoon because as yourself much by coincidence I was looking at a TB and Triton headset and ppl left comments suggesting the Sharkoon was better. So said so done, haven't looked back yet. The perks of this headset aka the convenience is really nice, but worth the price... not for me.

I seeing platform PS3 and Xbox 360.

I wouldn't say that, the receiver will cater for USB/Optical in/outputs so it will work fine on the PC as well i'm sure. TB comes from pc gaming, but they have to market to the larger gaming audience the console.

If you look at the user guide, you do not see a mic input. Wonder how that will work for the pc...

The 360 uses a proprietary wireless for their headsets (wireless) so unless this setup got the go ahead from MS to follow suite I am guessing they'll take the traditional approach (used by their other products), a 3.5mm stereo jack which will plug into the 2.5mm jack on the xbox controller. That would be the mic input, just guessing of course.

I read the product spec, it has optical INPUT. There's your PC mic. Also if you look in the 'how does it work' section they reference the Xbox 360 talk back cable, which would HAVE to be as I described above. Also the diagram of the receiver AND the details page clearly show analog stereo inputs.

Man...y'all just JEALOUS!!!  :laughing7:

This headset will serve quite nicely on all platforms.
I'm always looking for ways to cut the cord, with emphasis on 'as soon as I can afford',
which might as well be Christmas...2012.  :laughing7:

...and it WILL work on the PC, or else I wouldn't be interested.

Yes, there is a Xb0x 360 'talkback cable' with in-line volume/mute controls.
One end is 3.5mm that goes into the headset, and the other end is 2.5mm that
goes into the controller.  Unfortunately, because of MS and their proprietary ballz'
all 3rd party Xbox 360 mic input needs to be implemented this way.

I already have a bluetooth adapter attached to my PC, so mic input via bluetooth
is not an issue.  The thing has TWO bt radios, so that's one for PSN, and one for PC.

This headset is PERFECT for my needs, and it's wireless, which is the proverbial icing.
15 hrs runtime on 2 AA batteries is nothing to scoff at, and I have lots of rechargeables.

The price is steep, but for what's on offer here, is it really that expensive?

As far as I'm concerned, this is the best multiplatform gaming headset on the market right now.

Me and Turtle Beach will have words (eventually)  :)

Why not the Ear Force X41 then? it's wireless, supports all platforms like the PX5... single BT receiver but is that really an issue? I can really only see you using both if you're on a phone maybe? but then tbh how useful is being playing a game when you're on the phone... being on both PSN and PC will have limited usefulness imho, its like a Lexus LFA vs. a Nissan GTR. The LFA is MARGINALLY faster on the 1/4 mile but more than 3x the price. Sure it'll have bells and whistle that the GTR doesn't but is the LFA 3x the car the GTR is? NO, NO car is 3x the GTR but I digress, you get the comparison. Is it REALLY worth the money?

If it's the last headset you'll buy forever or for at least a few years then it worth it as a good investment. Provided you actually use all dem features eh.

...and that is my intention.  The last headset I bought (the AX 720) was in Q4 2009 eh.  Study dat.

I intend to use every feature.  The two BT radios can be put to task for PSN and Mumble.

Read some reviews for the X41, the biggest and most annoying problem (which has
finally been solved with this kit by the way) is the hissing and popping on the wireless
channel.  I considered that one since 2009, but the annoyances mentioned in nearly
every review were very serious deal-breakers.

I even considered the Logitech G930, but it's nowhere near as versatile as this set.

...and where I live now is much too small for big-ass Logitech speakers, so I much rather
pelt serious coin behind a superior headset.

No you don't need bluetooth to operate with the PC. The ONLY thing imho this headset has over any other viable option is it's wireless. And TBH I think they digging ppl eye out, niche riding ftw XD.

Technically you kinda do...at least for voice input.

Bluetooth adapters so cheap now that's not even an excuse.
I would think that most techies/gamers would have at least
ONE lying around somewhere.
