phoenix, the problem is....soon you may not have a choice, as more and more developers will give you the "blackops" treatment (aka designed for console...meh...whatever for the pc port)

Messiah, like I said...feel free to TRIPLE the PC sales figure to take into account "digital" distribution, it still won't touch the consoles by a mile.

Another harbinger of doom for our beloved PC platform was posted back in early 2009

http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE50601320090107?pageNumber=1&virtualBrandChannel=0

The death of the desktop PC. Surpassed by laptops and netbooks.

Talk about an assault from all sides. The odds are seriously stacked. We might be just delaying the inevitable.....

wyatt, how coudl pc gaming be dying, if d president of valve say he see ah steady increase of sales over d past 2 years?

again, how microsoft, valve, blizzard, ati, nvidia, all dem ppl making eyefinity monitors, and i coudl go on and on, how all dem ppl investing billions of dollors if pc gaming dead?

Alyuh jus by passing all d points ppl making, and juss sticking to alyuh one CONCEEDED point.

But at dis point, its jus, alyuh say pc gaming dead, post alyuh sales stats, i say no, post some articles. and we coudl keep going round and round like a merry go round.
So does it make any sense now ? :S

Imagine, in ah recession, d dying pc has seen steady sales growth via steam. but pc gaming dead, all d best titles still aviable on steam, cause pc gaming dead.

Is bess alyuh say, pc blackops dead. And stop trying to force alyuh sour grapes down ppl throat geeze.

For ah PC enthusit site, d support given by d administrators is so retarded it makes me want to leave gatt. Instead alyuh men support, promote, and encourage pc gaming, alyuh bashing d 1 or 2 members who trying to promote SWET? oh geeze.

as d man on ign say, d next time i hear "pc gaming is dead, id PUKE!"

Wouldn't the steady Increase in sales account for people that once Pirated games....Now they have no choice but to BUY the game on Steam to play online? That doesn't mean that PC gaming is picking up...it just means the same people who pirated, now BUY...thereby nullifying the argument that PC gaming is on the rise again..

redlum... by your logic then thats the only reason console game sales are picking up as well..

cuz the people who once pirated on ps2 and xbox days now have to buy games for ps3 and xbox 360 because of online play and anti-piracy...

so your argument nullifies the point on both sides

and @ wyatt... i feel you with the shitty ports to pc eh... but thats far from saying pc gaming is dying... cuz honestly i've only seen a few horrible ports...

digital downloads and anti-piracy will keep pc gaming well and alive...

1 single pc exclusive, held such good numbers, against a game released on all 4 gaming platforms. Dats alot of cheddar for a dying platform.

From the same article.

Quote
But while 'Cataclysm' may be the fastest-selling PC game, it did not topple the record for fastest-selling video game overall. "Call of Duty: Black Ops" — launched just last month — still holds that title. The first-person shooter for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and PC sold 5.5 million copies in its first 24 hours on sale.

Again, the PC is bested by consoles. If its one thing, the message is consistent. They even defeated the flagship WoW.

phoenix, I gotta lol @ anti-piracy.

Digital distribution is the best (and probably only) hope, and even then, only for games that have a compelling online component.  (a la starcraft 2)

Consoles have already reached the tipping point.

The PC market is now flooded with cheap laptops and netbooks that can't be upgraded to run games.

Still waiting on Messiaah to post the amazon links to a gaming PC and three games so we can compare the value proposition against the consoles. (I've already done the 360 and PS3)

Scientific analysis still to come.

really doh... the combined numbers of 3 consoles + PC beat a PC exclusive... come nah man better than that lol...

neways i think this thread has had all the relevant points made... i cant see any other way of convincing the naysayers that pc gaming is not dying, so time will tell right

lol edit:

One thing to keep in mind, however: 'Cataclysm' is available only on PC/Mac, while "Call of Duty" shipped on home consoles as well as computers.

taken from the same post... so its clear to me that minds have been made up... so on we go... pc or console i still killin game :)

lol, well phoenix, if you want to make it fair.

Try 7 million if you count UK sales.

From the BlackOps wiki.

Quote
Within 24 hours of going on sale, the game sold more than 7 million copies, 5.6 million in the U.S. and 1.4 million in the U.K.

I sure those WoW sales figures were world wide.

while its true not everyone buyin a PC to play games im pretty sure a PS3/360 + cheap laptop/netbook still cheaper than 1000+$

that chart u put up there is exactly the reason i left PC gamin years now
all da money for a system to run games i can play on a console and consoles get more games as well. Plus consoles easier to transport meaning i can tote a ps3 in a bag an go by a padna an swet without any hassle at all

and to be honest graphics doh really matter all that much to me as im a mp gamer primarily and i doh have time to study pretty colours when swet runnin........gameplay >>> graphics anyday for me
i only recently made the jump to HD a year ago after being on SD and enjoyin an pwnin on my ps3 without a fuss

plus the online and ease of use without having to worry about things like "hmm wonder if this cud run on my system dred?" is another thing that turned me away from PC gaming

with that said........i do intend to build a new PC sometime , whenever i have extra funds cuz right now i seeing a 360 and probably another ps3 purchase in the near future

again as i said people minds have been made cuz wyatt you could easily include korea in those WoW and SC2 numbers... except they dont have to buy the game like you and I as they access the games based on timecards etc.

But anyways enough points were made to show that pc gaming isnt dead or dying... and we can go back and forth all day but @ the end of it all the industry leaders have done their studies... the graphics card industry is booming right now.. and i'm sure its not because people doing more "video coding". That right their contradicts everything you guys saying...

To much big names continuing to invest in PC gaming for it to be any where close to dying...

facts dont lie... but people have different ways of interpreting facts it seems.
i've seen enough evidence in this thread to suggest that console gaming is at the best its ever been and pc gaming while not in its "hayday" is still very very healthy...

Another PC, this is a HTPC, so small form factor, good to move around if u want.
Playing any modern game out there juss fine.

Total = US$671

And i had a 300$ netbook, eventualy i got fedup of d slow speed, and upgraded to a 950$ netbook. So a console+netbook woudl be enough if all u want to do is browse d web then yea, lol.

If you looking to run 1080p bluray content, run some judgement games, and do all d rest of it, anything you can think of to use a pc fore, there u go. Photoshopping, movie editing, and d list is basicaly infinite what u can do with a proper pc.
Also included is extra gear to turn ur pc into a wii

SilverStone SG05B Mini-ITX/DTX Motherboard Plastic Front Panel Case (Black) - US$105
Intel Core i3-550 Processor with 4 MB Cache - US$128
Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 1 GB GDDR5 - US$184
Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C8 XMS3 4 GB - US$75
Gigabyte Mini-ITX Motherboard GA-H55N-USB3 - US$112
Western Digital Scorpio 2.5-Inch 500 GB SATA Internal Hard Drive WD5000BEKT - US$67

additions for wii emulator

IOGear USB 2.1 Bluetooth Micro Adapter GBU421 US$13
Nextronics Sensor Bar USB - US$19

..

Well yes look Baccanal :D

Just read through this thread, interesting stats on both sides, and yeah i know the feeling when men make up they mind on forums there is no changing it despite various facts/information presented.

Any way,

Start my 2 cents:
I don't think PC gaming is dead for multiple reasons i wont waste time getting into plus i have more faith in men like IGN and other trusted big names in the industry when it comes to this topic, reminds me longtime when men say Apple dogs dead hehe.
End my 2 cents:

Now that thats over with, messiah posted the stats for the pc i built for the living room (Using it for Boxee HT, PC Gaming, General use, and playing Wii emulator  :happy0203:) Price not to bad atall for the amount of uses i got for the box, can do everything i want with out leaving the couch to change a CD or input on meh TV ;)
