Watch this hands on video of the new hotness in action. I said gaddamn that sexy.

And yeah the Pyramid (uk version) will be normal 3g which will work down here.

As for battery life, the next gen dual cores are reported to be better at power management therefore having the same or better life than their single core counterparts.

You guys remember the hands on video that showcased that awesome Sense 3.0 interface. Well thanks to the good folks at XDA Developers I now have sense 3.0 on my Inspire 4g!! Talk bout niceness.

Needless to say, sensation purchase is officially on hold.

Microsoft's lucrative new revenue stream? Android
« Reply #331 on: May 27, 2011, 08:37:59 PM »
This is really funny

The irony's enough to make your head explode: Microsoft makes more money from Android than it does Windows Phone.

This according to Citi analyst Walter Pritchard, who says $5 from the purchase price of every HTC Android handset sold ends up in Microsoft's pockets.

Evidently, the terms of the patent licensing deal Microsoft negotiated with HTC over its Android offerings last April included some very lucrative royalties.

Which isn't all that surprising. At the time Microsoft went after HTC, sources close to the company claimed the handset vendor's infringement of its IP was very broad, ranging from the user interface to the guts of the OS itself.

Over at Asymco, Horace Dediu figures HTC has shipped roughly 30 million Android handsets, which works out to about $150 million in Android revenues for Microsoft.

Interestingly, HTC may have gotten off easy. Pritchard says Microsoft is looking for even higher royalties from the other Android handset manufacturers it's pursuing. "Our understanding is that Microsoft is looking for a $7.50 to $12.50 per unit license to settle alleged infringement of Microsoft patents," he writes.

Hack Facebook with one click and your phone
« Reply #332 on: June 02, 2011, 12:26:20 PM »
I can see plenty people getting hacked....

http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/02/faceniff-makes-facebook-hacking-a-portable-one-tap-affair-vide

Remember Firesheep? Well, the cookie snatching Firefox extension now has a more portable cousin called FaceNiff. This Android app listens in on WiFi networks (even ones encrypted with WEP, WPA, or WPA2) and lets you hop on to the accounts of anyone sharing the wireless connection with you. Right now it works with Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Nasza-Klasa (a Polish Facebook clone), but developer Bartosz Ponurkiewicz promises more are coming. You'll need to be rooted to run FaceNiff -- luckily, we had such a device laying around and gave the tap-to-hack app a try. Within 30 seconds it identified the Facebook account we had open on our laptop and had us posting updates from the phone. At least with Firesheep you had to sit down and open up a laptop, now you can hijack Twitter profiles as you stroll by Starbucks and it'll just look like you're sending a text message (but you wouldn't do that... would you?). One more image and a video are after the break.

This will allow you to block ads on websites and in apps.

http://lifehacker.com/5612338/adfree-blocks-ads-on-your-rooted-android-phone

Android: AdFree is a simple, one-touch ad blocker for your rooted Android phone.

Your phone doesn't have the horsepower that your desktop does, and excessive ads can not only bog down your system, but eat up precious bandwidth that some of us pay for by the gigabyte. If you've rooted your Android device (and most of you have), AdFree will get rid of those pesky ads for you with minimal setup.

Just download it from the Market, open it up, and hit the "Download & Install Hosts" button at the top of the screen. There are a few options for more advanced tweaking, but most people won't have to edit any settings to get it working. Note that it actually blocks the ads from downloading; it doesn't just hide them--so it actually is conserving resources (unlike some ad blockers).

Also note that this blocks ads in apps as well as in your browser. We wish there were a way to specify in which apps to block ads, since we want to support app developers that release their apps for free--but unfortunately there is no such option yet. As always, while we understand the need for ad blocking, consider supporting the developers and sites that you like in any way you can (i.e., if there is a donate version of an app you like, consider paying for it if you have this ad blocker turned on).

AdFree is a free download for rooted Android phones. Note that some phones, like the HTC Droid Incredible, will require a bit of hacking to get the app working.

« Reply #334 on: June 03, 2011, 03:50:17 PM »
So yall may or may not be familiar with this promotion tstt is now running. Started today as a matter of fact.

I just made a trip to tstt and confirmed that you get the 4g device free, UNLIMITED '4g' (actual speed unconfirmed) data plus the respective voice, 'EDGE' data that you see in the ad.

And yes, you HAVE to buy one of the phones listed. Shitty right? Those prices of the data plans are also vat exclusive.

Them prices actually not that bad.
Of course, the sim-lock is easily 'taken care of', and the rooting, well, that's even easier.

...but instead of forcing these 4g devices on people, why not give existing smartphone owners 'proper' 3g/4g services on their handsets, eh TSTT?

At least I can give em a solid +1 for promoting the spread of Android in T and T.  :icon_thumright:

I cant even open a single page on edge. Emails trickling in,, real spotty this week especially. Most likely because of all the freeloaders.

But yeah, true mobile broadband at this point seems like a pipe dream. i was considering this until I found out that you have to both be a new postpaid customer AND buy one of those three phones in order to get that price.

Atrocious, tstt.

really need some competition from a first world country to come stir the pot. I thought digicel would have been able to provide some sort of forward momentum in t&t but seems the only progress was some temporary price fixing.

Well basically they can provide this device using their current WiMAX infrastructure. It basically works the same as blink on the go turbo technologically.
Phones generally don't use WiMAX though, so they can't provide the speed directly to the phone, hence the go between.

WiMAX is a 4G technology though, so their boast isn't inaccurate or anything by calling it 4G, certainly it's less of an exaggeration than the claims AT&T/Tmobile etc make in their ads now.

Providing actual 3G/4G requires major network upgrades, basically this is what they can do for people at the moment.
