Tablets, they can do everything, except fit in your pocket :p To be honest I NEARLY bought a Galaxy Tab, it just looked so sexy.

tablets have they place.. and smartphones have they place...

cant replace one with the other... in my opinion.. heck it's designed so that you cannot (hence the lack of a cell radio)...

we just jonesin on if someone were to actually try to replace the phone with a tab hehe

Looks like we will have a new contender in this arena in the forseeable future:

Quote
ntel CEO: x86 to soon be dripping with Honeycomb goodness
By Jon Stokes | Last updated about 17 hours ago

On an earnings call this week, Intel CEO Paul Otellini confirmed that Intel is hard at work on an x86 port of Android 3.0, aka Honeycomb. The port is intended to be paired with the company's recently announced "Oak Trail" line of SoCs, for a platform that rumors indicate will be called "PRC Plus." Otellini didn't get specific about when the new platform would launch, noting only that products from Acer, Lenovo, and Asus will be coming in the second half of theyear.

Oak Trail will certainly outperform the ARM competition for CPU-intensive tasks, but at the cost of some battery life. It remains to be seen if and how Intel can use that performance edge to its advantage with Honeycomb. The ARM version of the Android 3.0 OS will be more polished by the time the Oak Trail products hit the market, and most of the performance-intensive stuff that we've seen from the OS so far is interface-centric. As long as the interface remains the primary place where cycles are spent, ARM could still have an advantage, because SoC makers can just pair an ARM core with a capable GPU and drive the interface that way.

Otellini also talked up the company's upcoming 32nm Medfield part, which the CEO claims will probably show up in smartphones before the end of this year.

http://arstechnica.com/business/news/2011/04/intel-ceo-x86-to-soon-be-dripping-with-honeycomb-goodness.ars

I don't really know the ramifications of this, but you phone freeks will, do comment XD

Plans are already in place for dual core 2ghz chips using ARM architecture. There's also runours of quad core chips surfacing sometime in 2012 or 13.

The mobile space isnt short on powerful hardware. Sure, more hardware means lower pricing.

Im not absolutely sure what advantages x86 will bring over ARM especially when running the same software platform. Even more power? But at what cost? Only time will tell what Intel will come with and how they impact this segment.

What sort of battery life are we looking at with multiple cores? Better/Worse?

Read through a review on AnandTech today for the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer TF101:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4277/asus-eee-pad-transformer-review

Makes for a very interesting product for those considering tablets. If you don't wanna read through the entire article, which is well worth the read imo, then here's a walkthrough video that they did:

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Video Walkthrough

Seems like an interesting product, and I'm very interested to see how the next generation Kal-El processor from nVidia will impact it.

More cores = better battery life, not worse.

Yeah @ that Asus. I like it but I like the G-slate better. It has docking potential but not sure what kind of offerings will be available for it.

Yeahh its GOOOD to be back. Back on the bandwagon of win via the HTC inspire 4g which is the us's version of the Desire HD, identical phones but MUCH cheaper!

Stop gap until the Sensation comes down to a reasonable price, perhaps merry Sensation Christmas to meee.

Now to pick right back up from where I left off.
