Yes and no

The mobile market is already a tour de force without any truly killer games.

Angry Birds and Plants vs Zombies. Please.

Imagine when it is capable of battlefield 3 level graphics?

The casual and mass market will collide in one epic fusion.

Sure the pcs of the day will be capable of so much more but I am willing to bet the developers will aim their sights at that huge mobile pie instead.

When mobiles capable of running B3, Consoles will be capable of running games the caliber of the videos i posted. Actually even more. And Change is hard for ppl, in a short 5 years, u not going to get ppl to pay 60$ for a mobile game. Which is d cost game devs going to have to charge to develop truly stellar games d level of B3. (Like i said, is not just graphics). It have too many things fighting against mobiles replacing consoles. Especially in a short 5 years.

If i was a developer, and making billions on 60$ flagship games on consoles every year. Why would i decide to throw all my eggs in the mobile basket? They would develop for mobile also, just like they develop for Wii and Wii U lol. But don't expect it to be the same game /  experience. Not by a long shot. When men focusing on making games d caliber of those videos i posted. It go be a truly great time for gaming, mobile will still be on d sidelines, like it always was, and like it is now. Complementary, Not Primary.

Very myopic messiaah.

A few titles does not an industry make and in case you haven't noticed...the list of triple A titles of that calibre are few....very few.

For every 1 Call of Duty there are hundreds of sports, racers, fighters, casual games, platformers, mobos, rpgs, etc..... competing for gaming hours.

The developers who can afford to crank out an expensive tripe A title are also shrinking. You think it is going to be cheap to produce a top tier game with the graphics of those links you posted?

No sir

Guess where the value proposition will be most interesting?

As the mobile platforms become ubiquitous and powerful.....I can make a game that is reasonably cheap to produce, reaches a massive population of potential gamers who are proven customers (that is, they will spend their money and not pirate) and profit wildly?

The eco system around the google play store and apple store (as well as the Amazon store) will be too huge to ignore.

Your vision of the hard core gaming scene will still exist, of course....but it will be dwarfed by the vast landscape of mobile gaming (with good enough graphics a la battlefield 3)

Tomb Raider
Hitman
Bioshock Infinite
Crysis 3
Heart Of The Swarm
Dead Space 3
The last of us
Star Wars 1313
Metro
Ass. Creed 3
Dishonored
Far Cry 3
Metal Gear Rising
Watch Dogs

...to be continued.

Yea boy....."few".

(note I eh call a single game from last year of which there was also "few")

also, Unreal Engine 3 demo looked amazing at launch, now is d standard everything goes by.
Once developers get accustom to Unreal Engine 4, same high quality as seen in those vids will be mainstream.

Like i said Enjoy your shit graphics and look forward to a bland future.
I'll be looking forward to better and better games as d years go by :)

As "few" as they may be <- sarcasm.

yes sir, those are few.

There are thousands of games released each year. Don't forget you sit at the high end of the gaming pyramid.

And never forget that you are already dwarfed by the console masses. TODAY.

PC gaming figures compared to console figures is laughable.

Being elite doesn't make you the majority nor does it make you superior in value to the developers.

Those billions (from Apple and Google) I posted earlier will ultimately determine the gaming landscape of the future.

Less investment, greater return. SOLD

It has already begun

http://www.techhive.com/article/2038787/ea-bringing-frostbite-3-gaming-engine-to-mobile.html

http://venturebeat.com/2013/03/29/epic-games-extends-unreal-engine-4-to-mobile-games-creates-an-eye-popping-demo/

Both Frostbite 3 and Unreal Engine 4 (that you love to tout) are already being brought to mobile.

That is news from this year.

You may be surprised at what quality of games mobile will be able to deliver in 2018. Mark these posts Messiah....and mark them well.

Games developed on the mobile versions of those engines wont be remotely close to what's capable on consoles / PCs

Also, Android currently owns a dramatic amount of marketshare when compared to IOS, and Samsung owns 92% of the android landscape, yet still Apple is the richest company in the world. Is not always about numbers. Is about profit.

Making games for mobile devices u have to sell them cheap, id argue that less sales @ higher cost could turn a better profit than plenty 1$ games. Which is why the industry still trying to push the boundaries of those engines. You think they released that demo of the Unreal 4 engine to showcase what mobile games will look like? No. That's for the many game developers that utilized the UT3 engine to make epic games.

You say it have few epic Console/PC games, it have even fewer truly epic mobile games, if there are any....

Nvidia put forward they best work in high end graphics cards to date. So clearly they don't see this mobile taking over thing, they see mobile growing yes, but not replacing, so their best work still goes towards high end GPUs.
Same applies to all those epic games I listed, you don't invest billions in games like that if you think it's going to go downhill.

Mobile will get bigger yes, but replacing consoles in 5 years, no, I still don't buy it.

You is the same man who was spouting the PC Gaming is dead thread. Yet still since that arugment, there have been more AAA titles for PC released, and more and better sales, less piracy, better online support. More media coverage. E-Sports take off in an epic way. There was a 1 million dollar League Of Legends tournament wah day it was.

Heart of the swarm tourneys gone international with WCS. Dota tournaments making ah mass. (All on PC mind you).

Since that PC Gaming is dead thread, I couldn't be happier to be a PC gamer, cause things just get better, and better, and better sine then. So clearly PC isn't going anywhere. We still have the best games available for our platform.

And the same thing will happen to this mobile gaming will replace consoles crap. 5 Years from now. There will still be truly epic games being produced for Consoles/PCs, the best games available will be for those platforms. True gamers will be there, lamers will be on android. And despite the millions of android users, console go still be there wining in they face.

Just like how you say Farmville and the like going to kill console, yet still consoles still making ah mass, with new ones poised to be launched too.

For ah man who suppose to love tech and technological advancement, you does be rel touting lamerism boy.
Yuh does rel be holding strong to the idea that humanity is going to settle for average and not push the boundaries of what's possible with technology. You clearly not envisioning the Holo-Deck future.

Is like saying Toyota cars going to replace all High End cars, because they "cheaper" and there are "more" of them in the world. And owning a high end car is much more niche than owning a console lol).

Mobile mite very well replace a console / pc in 5 years for YOU. because you choose to settle for less. And whiles you playing crap games, I go be smiling ear to ear playing truly epic experiences.

I think you are missing my point in both cases.

arcades still exist....so why do we say they are dead and have been replaced by consoles?

Due to the simple fact that the majority of gamers now play on consoles.

Watch on in horror as that same phenomenon destroys the desktop pcs with the coming wave of next generation consoles.

And then again with the burgeoning mobile horde in five years.

Unreal engine 4 and frostbite 3 to the mobile world! Boom bang.

Writing is on the wall.

So why not let's wait 5 years and THEN resume this argument?

You guys should really make a separate thread for this discussion though.
I'll even create a title for you: 'Will mobile, AAA gaming replace console/PC AAA gaming in 5 years?  Discuss"  :)

Have at it there.

LOL, hyperlink the thread they arc.

Wyatt, arcades dead cuase u cant get games to play in it, simple as that. Once all the high end games still being produced for consoles / pc, it eh dead. Yuh cant walk in ah arcade and play any of the games I listed.
When games like that no longer available for console / pc, and only available on android, then it dead.

And I doh see that happening.

How quickly we forget ...

Not too long ago crysis was a pc exclusive.

As consoles began their onslaught....crysis became a console first game and a pc port.

A few years ago the latest games could have still be found in the arcades...and yet they were still dead.

This process is ongoing. I already said it will be finalized with this new generation of consoles.

Enjoy the death throes while they last.

Name 1 RPG type game that was in arcade, you smoking ah wah.

All arcades have was beat-um-up/side scrolling shooter, fighters, and car racing.
That's all..... Maybe yuh lil pitfall.

I have no idea what u talking bout dude.

And who cares if crisis is no longer a pc exclusive, Crysis 3 is still the best on PC. And all d long talk bout PC dead.
All d Top Teir Cross Platform games are available on PC........ I know not of the death u speak of.

And yes, ill enjoy every bit of my Superior Graphics and Gameplay, whiles u enjoy lack luster graphics. And ill look forward to epic games running on Unreal 4 engine and games with similar visual fidelity and mechanics, whiles you look forward to accepting lack luster games / mechanics in the name of mobile.

To each his own lol.

And if u likening consoles dieing off to PCs, den I really cyah understand what angle u coming form, cause like I said, PC gaming couldn't be better. It's the best it has been in years.

Referring to arcade relevent games of course.

Trending is a very important concept messiah. Judging from the sales of triple a titles...the trend reflects that the majority of sales are coming from the consoles.

I already posted links to the mobile sales figures.

The trends show you the future.

Unless something really disruptive happens...it is going the way I described.

If I get some free time tomorrow, I may even quote some of the more salient pieces from the article but this graphic is pretty priceless, lol

Mobile Gaming is Increasing, But Console Gaming is Still in The Lead [Infographic]

We may argue about whether or not console gaming is dissipating, mobile gaming is at an increase, but it’s just not ready to overtake gaming on a console, yet.

In the past, we had discussed that mobile gaming might be taking over. Mobile gaming can be more convenient, original, and bring new exciting ideas to how we play games. However, it makes us wonder, can it really overtake console gaming?

According to Statista, in 2011 console gaming was still where the money was made, when it comes to the console vs mobile gaming debate. For now, don’t fear, console gaming won’t be going away for quite some time.

The smartphone industry has started changing gaming as a whole, but in order for mobile games to take over, we need to have a solution that doesn’t require much setup. Mobile gaming has gained popularity, due to the fact it’s easy to use, while also being extremely convenient. Although, if you want to play a mobile game on an HDTV or use it as a full blown console, it takes quite a few steps to setup, which takes away the convenience factor. With a console, all it takes is hitting a few buttons and you’re ready to play with your family, and friends.
