And yet the masses do not even have the capability to run it today.

In 5 years it will be a base line for mobile devices.

Wyatt last time I checked bf3 was on ps3 and Xbox , what u mean d masses don't have d capability to run it ?
Wah u really smoking dread loll.

And using ur phone as an htpc done by .0000000001% of the world's population. I add enough zeros? Lol.

In five years bf3 will be hideous.

U have an Xbox/ps3 controller connected to ur mobile wirelessly?

What blu ray rom u going to use to play the various games available much less five years from now?

This don't really apply to the masses, but, My htpc has to be capable of decoding 7.1 trueHD audio, my media for one movie does be 40-50gb. Using a mobile to do that currently is impossible.

Anyways I realize it pointless trying to convince u that ur predictions about mobile replacing consoles in five years are rubbish. In five years we go see lol.

Edit:
Trivia Question: what happens when the family watching a movie via mobile device htpc and the phone rings or u receive a whatsapp message you need to reply too?

As mentioned before, I already use my phone as an HTPC NOW.

In 5 years, it won't be an unusual thing to do because your phone will be the "one ring" device that does it all.

I simply put the phone in "do not disturb" mode for movie watching, whatsapp does not interrupt it as a result. Nor phone calls. Like Windows Phone doesn't have that feature or what??

In reference to Battlefield 3, I meant the PC population cannot run it right now. Not the console population.

And yes, PS3 controller can connect to android phone over bluetooth just fine.

You will be able to store the games on the local media of the phone. They will be rocking terrabyte storage and more in the next 5 years. Men already walking around with 64GB and so now.

All the ground work has already been laid....the future is going to come....whether you want to believe it or not boy Messiaah.

Cool at the Bluetooth, but mobile still eh touching console in five years.

and not everybody wants to or can afford to put they phone on ignore and watch a movie lol. If my phone ring 3am I hadda answer it. I'll never want to restrict my phone to htpc duties. But that's another discussion. And d argument is phones replacing consoles why u making reference to PCs?

and this one device to rule Dem all idea is not practical, I'll never want that even if it was possible.

but like I said, can't stop men from dreaming, "just like NVIDIA with shield".

5 years from now I go laugh hard lol. Well u have like 4.5 years left eh. If we start counting from when u first start hyping mobile is more like four years left, maybe less. Ah counting lol.

and no doubt d future is going to come, but it going to come for consoles and PCs as well.

For those who cant put their phone on ignore. The solution is simple.

Dont put it on "do not disturb" mode. Watch the movie/play your game and just pause and answer when the call comes in.

If you use a bluetooth headset like I do, you wont even have to leave the comfort of your couch.

Also...a typical household will have more than one gaming capable mobile device.  Offering a lot of flexibility.

If u have to be carrying on a whatsapp convo whiles yuh tv show playing, u going to stop all media just to chat?

Also, who buying a high end smartphone to leave it hooked up in they child room for them to pyong game?
Which btw, is how most house holds do it. Kid have they xbox to do wahever, parents have they own tv.

This mobile idea is just not practical, it creates more problems than it solves. Currently a model exists, parents walk in a game shop, say give me d latest xbox/playstation, wrap it and fling it under d Christmas tree.

Nobody going to buy a high end android phone, learn how to hook it up to tv, learn how to connect a Bluetooth controller, etc etc etc, just to freak game?

All parents hada do is buy d console, buy d games, and kids do d rest. D whole mobile phone model just not practical.
It mite work for ur personal needs as a gaming platform / htpc, but it not going to work for d masses.

This is why despite PC's being so much more powerful, the consoles take over, because it's a simple model, parents could just get in a store and it just works. it have nothing to install, no drivers to deal with nothing. Buy d thing, slap in d disc, and off u go.

And consoles not only easier to work with, easier to setup, and more convenient for the home. It's also dramatically more powerful then mobile.

If u honestly think, that model is going to be broken in a short 5 years, for the "masses" then u really smoking fig leaf.

Stop fooling yuhself wyatt, it not going to happen. Not by a long shot. That mobile phone one ring to rule dem all is a geek dream, a pipe dream. Even if d mobile was powerful enough to compete with console, d world simply not ready for that no time soon.

How many kids you have Messiah?

I have and guess what my son is asking for....a smart phone.

The man asking bout S4, Iphone 4, Nexus 4.....

The new generation already switched on to gaming on their mobile phones.

They know they can go anywhere they want and game. Parents gonna have a helluva lot harder time "controlling" the gaming of their kids now. It easy to lock down the living room console...not so easy to lock down a kid's phone.

You think in 5 years, a 15 year old kid going to be "challenged" gaming on his phone???? lol

He could play his Call of Duty 15 and Street Fighter 9 anywhere and on any screen he wants. Flexibility galore.

And like you rightfully said....parents will buy what their kids want.

Christmas 2019...Mark my words.

you honestly going to buy ah galaxy s 4 for yuh son? seriously?

And mobile gaming like that complements a console not replace it, like woodyear say, that competing with vita and 3ds, not console.

I just see an article, android marketshare for q1 2013 is 75% How much of that percentage u think is high end phones, and how much is Mee-Too androids ppl buy cause it "cheap"

You're a techie wyatt, yuh in a totally different category than other ppl. My son is 6, and he want a Surface Pro.
And a lumia 920. naturally cause he seeing me using it and does want to paint and freak game on it etc. Am I actually buying it for him? hell no, he will use ah old laptop and learn some values. But I will still allow him access to tech so he could keep getting smarter.

D most parents doing is buying like ah cheap ipad, or itouch or something. And that is by no means a replacement for a full fledged console.

Yuh trying to liken the industry to your personal situation and use-case, but the general population not going that route. When xbox next come out and ps4 come out, im certain the sales figures for those consoles go be off the roof.

Consoles not going anywhere, mobile gaming skyrocket yea, and going to keep getting better, but replacing a console? Nope!

But this argument can go on and on, until d time reach we go never know.
So like I said, next 4.5 years we go see. In the mean time, enjoy your "high end gaming" experience on that shit graphics that's called android. Men who really want to swet go get xbox next / ps4 / pc.

There are kids walking around with Iphone4s and S3's right now.

Why? Cause daddy or mommy upgraded to the S4 and Iphone 4s. They got a handmedown.

What you think going to happen in 2018?

My son rocking a BlackBerry 9000 right now. Guess where he got that from? Hand Me Down from dearest old Dad.

My wife on a 9790. Again, hand me down.

You won't have to spend a "dime" on your kids then because they will be getting your previous generation kit for free.

In fact, he would have had a Samsung Galaxy Nexus if it didn't take a sea bath down Maracas and is now FUBAR.

Mark these posts well eh Messiaah. Bookmark them. lol

I give you the hand-me-down argument, if hand-me-downs in 5 years capable of running them games, then yea, could see that happening. (d laptop my son using is actually my Sony Vaio SA hand-me-down, i7/8gb/SSD)

Provided the gaming generation of that time totally ignore the radically superior games that would exist on consoles, then yea, consoles dead. But this is all based on the premise that people wont care about better games, and just stop buying consoles. Mobile gaming has existed for years, since the first game boy. but it was always complementary to the console not a replacement. In 5 years it go still be the same scenario. PPL still buy a shitload of 3DS, but that eh mean it replace men console.

Quite frankly, kids go want both. Xbox and GS10 lol.
GS10 for the shit games, i.e. B3 at that time, and Xbox for the hot games, i.e. B8

Well my theory requires one main dynamic to be true...which is...there is a point of diminishing returns for graphics. A plateau.

We already see it with Nintendo games. How much better do we really need Mario to look? Or Zelda?

We see it with Fifa. The graphics from the last two fifa games are practically the same fidelity and it doesn't impact the game on a visual level. Once we hit true 1080p (most current gen games run at 640p and 740p) with the next generation of consoles, I don't think there is going to be much more to be done in the eye candy department.

We see it with Street Fighter.

Innovation may be the key driver for games in 5 years and not graphics.

For example, fast forward to the year 2019:

Street Fighter 9 on the 8ghz Hexa Core Intel I15 with 64GB Ram and an ATI 15,050 32GB PCI Express 8 graphics card you will be able to see Ryu's hair follicles in his nose at 4K resolution.

However, on Street Fighter 9 mobile edition on a device with a Quad Core 4ghz arm processor, with 8gb of RAM and Nvidia Tegra6 4GB at 1080p you will be able to play the same game sans the hair follicles.

Offering more or less the same gameplay experience.

At that point, will I care? No. Nor would the masses.

Gamers today already opt for the shitteir looking console counterpart of big games like CoD and Battlefield and we haven't even hit the plateau yet for those type of FPS games. I can only image what would happen when they achieve true 1080p on the consoles.

The mobile copy would probably be much cheaper than the desktop version also....maybe $9.99 vs the full PC price of $39.99

Developers have already proven to us that they will go where the money and the market is.

They will develop for consoles with lamer graphics than PCs because they will derive more sales from that platform and less piracy. True story.

The mobile platform has proven itself in terms of sales figures. It is a no brainer to begin to move heavily towards that space. It is a market with incredible potential and is growing exponentially.

Wyatt, you dramatically underestimate how much better games can get. I've included 2 videos of games rendered in real-time. We do not yet posses the graphical capabilities to produce full fledged games looking like that, but we not far off. In 5 years time, that! is how high end games would look. I don't think the Xbox Next and PS4 go be able to totally maximize those engines. That's where PC's will lead the fray for the next 5 years. But i think the Xbox Next 2 / PS5 would be able to maximize the graphics of those engines.

I also know for a fact that mobile graphics is not even 10% as good as what's included in those videos.
And mobile hardware will not even be remotely close to that in 5 years.

Because of the nature of consoles, graphical technology happens in Leaps not Increments. So don't get tie up with the fact that mobile "catching up". There will be a graphical leap with the next generation of consoles 2-3 years in when they can maximize the tech. PCs will always be ahead, but PCs will still be limited by the power of the consoles. Because they will code games for Consoles first, but they will Look better on PCs.

Which is why at the launch of every new PS/Xbox we have a great leap in graphics. Take God of war 1 compared to God of war 3 for instance. Night and Day. Or Battlefield 1 compared to Battlefield 3.

Right now in your eyes it LOOKS like it plateauing, but after inspecting the vidoes below, you cant be seriously thinking that. P.S. Watch the vidoes in Full HD Resoltuion and Full Screen. Also make note of the use of PhysX in the demo. Not just graphics for being pretty sake, but they way hair works, they way wind blows and affects objects, the way particles react, etc etc etc. You need rel processing power to do them things.

Borderlands 2 on Ultra with PhysX on High looks totally and completely different, to Borderlands 2 at 1080p. And that's OLD tech we talking bout, not even talking bout newer games that going to be released.

In 5 years time, mobile games will be a joke, when compared to what the Consoles / PCs will be running.

And BTW, i think what's shown below is not even remotely close to being "Life-Like" we rel far from that still.

Enough rambling, have a looksy:

No I agree completely for certain genres that there is tons of room for growth.

Others....not so much.

Like fifa, dota, platformers, fighters...etc...etc..

Those are where the plateau will arrive in 5 years.  Just as we have already pushed the envelope on graphics for 2d casual games.

D top grossing games in the industry right now is non of those lol.

Also, I don't think we plateau with 2D games yet. It have plenty that can be done there still. And like i say, everything is not just graphics as in how pretty it looks. It have plenty things u can do with 2D games that not being done at the moment. The issue there is, weather or not gaming studios going to invest millions to develop 2D games capable of much more, and have to end up selling it for cheap. What limited 2D games is not ability, is the industry.
