That's the strategy no point in launching a 4g network if most users don't have a phone capable of handling it. Pretty much all early adopters and tech enthusiasts would have s3 etc already. They just rolling out to the general public now don't think this sale is targeting general gatt people lol

it couldn't hurt for them to include some of the modern offerings in their sale too.

I would have sprung for another galaxy nexus or s3 if the price was right.

...and therein lies the rub.

The S3 (and to a lesser extent, the Galaxy Nexus) is considered a 'premium' device, so you won't see it for those piper prices within 6 months of launch.

Come back next year this same time for them S3/Nexus deals.

Nice

Check the graphics on that thing. Does it look that good on Android? The video is from the ipad2 right?

Also, been expecting this for a while since the Raspberry Pi and its ilk were announced.

http://www.amazon.com/Media-ULTRA-Companion-802-11n-Ethernet/dp/B0088IGPM8/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1346219570&sr=1-2&keywords=pivos

A full fledged ICS Android media player that runs XBMC (which I currently use on numerous devices around the house to do HTPC duty)

Really want to give this a try.

See if it can obliterate the need for one of the laptops/desktops.

Go android go!

In the long run, I expect this sort of technology to be integrated into the TVs (which has already begun with the smart tv movement) but in the interim, there is an opportunity for android to attack the living room from yet another angle.

Yeah the graphics look similar.

That media player looks nice though I wish it was a bit cheaper.

For half the price you can get a very capable solution that can do anything a tablet can do...on your TV or any display for that matter.

I brought in one and have been playing with it since last week and its pretty good! If you can live with just two USB ports, this can actually be a replacement for a low end pc. It can even work with your wireless keyboard and mouse, usb hard drives etc etc. win win win

Not so fast!

The reason I postured for the Xios can be read here:

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=136852

Executive Summary: Hardware Acceleration

XBMC can be a bit of a performance hog (despite its OSS roots) and that results in really sluggish performance without hardware acceleration.

The MiniMK802, while cheaper, doesn't offer hardware acceleration.

One other killer feature missing from both which is staying my hand on the buy button right now, is surround sounds support (DD, DTS, etc...)

Stereo iwmc

I would really like to make proper use of my 5.1 sound system, ESPECIALLY with an HTPC solution.

Still, this is good progress. Hopefully the next generation of these devices will cover both issues handsomely.

*edit*

One of the Xios developers said they had a working DD surround sound firmware in the lab, so it is possible they can bring it to the device eventually....also they are working on licensing DTS. good times ahead

BadHaddy says:

The chip is capable. We are working on licensing for DTS, but I actually had DD support running earlier in a not-yet-available test configuration.

Wrong on both counts. The MK802 has hardware support for acceleration, the program you want to use probably does not fully support the SoC yet but there seems to be active work being done to fix this.

Also, if you read up on the specs of HDMI, you see that it is actually capable of DTS output. Most tv's have optical audio out which can then be fed into your DTS surround sound system. Again, if this type of output is not yet supported it has nothing to do with a hardware limitation, rather software.

Awesome the review for that MK802 says it runs kinda hot. Think this would reduce the life of the unit?
