Check out the Cyanogenmod 6xx builds. Most stable release for that phone.

Hey Folks,

Arcman was trying to help me use a custom ROM but we are stumped.

I tried using this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880859

I got the phone rooted, organized Rom Manager and got the ClockworkMod Recovery going.

I placed the zip file for the mod in the root of the phone memory.

The issue is that upon booting into clockworkmod, I do not get any option to flash the rom, only the regular options such as reboot etc.

Any idea why this wouldn't show? I am using the "Install from SD card" in rom manager, tried a few other roms same issue. It seems as though the CWM isn't seeing the zip files in the root of the phone memory :( I even tried renaming the file update.zip

Rom Manager - Download ROM - Choose your ROM - Install - Enjoy ROM

If you really wanna manually install one, just use the "Install rom from memory card" option in  rom manager.

Couldnt be easier.

I like rom manger so much that I actually paid the $4us to support them.

"Error occurred while processing the ROM list"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-956076.html
:(

Yeah I paid the 4 US as well.

My issue with the manual install "install from sd card" is that when it reboots I see no option to install, only the regular reboot, reinstall packages etc.

That's strange. When you browse to your rom in the app it supposed to start install right away.

Not sure what going on there.

Ah ok thanks for the help everyone. Seems as though I missed one of the key steps in getting CWM onto the device. (Guess I was too excited to read the instructions properly hehe) Got it on and everything went smoothly. Running a lil Darkys mod atm hehe.

Tell me something if I want to try a different ROM, do I just drop it into the root folder and run CWM install from SD again? Or do I have to uninstall/flash back to stock firmware?

Nope...now that you have the ClockworkMod Recovery installed...it's a simple matter of putting the new ROM file on your internal SD-card, booting into CWM menu and 'install zip from sdcard'.

It's that simple.

I'm now on the Darky's Mod myself, and it's head and shoulders above the stock Froyo firmware.

These custom ROMs are bloody fantastic:)

Android is really good, a tinkerer paradise. I thought y'all were over hyping these phones but after hours of fiddling I see the power of customization. It is funny out of the box I was fine, the mods etc. were a nice bonus hehe.

"College student Sahas Katta was able to beat his speeding ticket in traffic court using…drumroll please…his Android smartphone, and a handy app. Katta was pulled over and charged with going 40mph in a 25mph zone. But he wasn’t going 40, only 26mph. His word against the officer’s right? Not so much, since he was running My Tracks by Google in the background on his Motorola Droid phone.

The free app records and visualizes GPS data on a map, tracking distance, average speed, average moving speed, and max speed. Katta downloaded this information to Google Docs and brought it with him to the courtroom. He was able to convince the judge that the officer might not have been using his radar gun correctly, introducing enough reasonable doubt that he was declared “not guilty”. Nice!"

given the net connectivity of these devices and the amount of important personal data you are likely to store on them....are you guys really comfortable running a custom rom designed by a guy named "darky"?

lol
