Yeah freenas is the shit, there are so many features it's a shame people pay for nas appliances. If your not into bsd one of freenas devs has a WIP linux based nas.

Trust meh Crixx, It's unlikely that you'll find a NAS or enclosure with all the connections

you called. I've been researching enclosures and NAS units for a while now, and I've never

seen one with SATA, IDE, USB (and I'm guessing eSATA too) and network capabilities. Do they

even sell IDE enclosures anymore? Anyway, thanks disciple for introducing me to the whole

FreeNAS thing. I was looking to start saving up for a NAS unit, but the prices I'm seeing for

a high quality one is just crazy ($900 - $2000US). But is there any other NAS software out

there that's a bit more noob friendly?

no, noob friendly means that the noobs dont need to set nothing up or nothing
they dont need to interact with it nothing.

Free nas is NOT that

that's retard friendly mate, if you can read you can setup freenas basic features
http://www.howtoforge.com/network_attached_storage_with_freenas

need any help use the forums mate or ask me, i'm not saying im a freenas pro but i have a pretty good setup and i am always on the forums looking for something new to learn.

Try setting up a Nas using ubuntu server and just the cmd, now that is a b*tch.

other option are openfiler
http://www.openfiler.com/

openmediavault but its not even in beta stage as yet and probably will be a better option over openfiler, plus it's free

anything else you will have to have to spend some money.

hoss
like you doh interact with noobs very often
lol
seriously, read? nah, noobs dont read
noobs must be able to click on something and it work , or not have to interact with it at all
it must just work, if it is not relative to their interest they wont use it.

End of the day, that is waht noobs do, they say, i didnt know what to do
so i dont ever use it.

I can use free nas, no problem i have used it, no problem

NOOBS on the other hand, will NOTTTTTTTTT use free nas.
