Mailman's - Gadget Guru Business Plan now to christmas!
« on: August 09, 2010, 01:26:20 AM »
Hey guys i want feedback and hard criticism here as i wanna launch this by early September...

I plan to launch a subscription based online/over the phone Game Store here in Trinidad and yes Tobago...

It goes like this: Person wants said PS3 or Xbox game @ $520 in the store... Instead of buying in the store or ordering from amazon and waiting two weeks. They order it from me via bank deposit or (possibly credit card) @ a cost of say 420$, where it will be shipped to whatever previously stated address in their account. This delivery should take place based on game availability within 4-7 days... Wii, Ps2, DS & PSP as well

Pre order, no problem... Most games would be received within two days of the US release date

Now returning to the subscription part each user will subscribe to my service with a meager annual fee of 400$ (refundable if no purchases are made within 7 days of the account being created).

Furthermore, users will have low cost access to peripherals, consoles, etc... All via the poultry $400 subscription.

Also, looking for a gift, Christmas is right round the corner, why not buy a gift card of a subscription to the Gadget Guru's Gaming Service. This can be done and will be delivered within 2-3 days to the gift giver or receiving party.

If gaming is your choice, good prices should be your right

Honestly, Its a great idea, but i would not spend $400 on a subscription, when i could spend the same money on a skybox subscription...

there is only one way to find out how successful your idea is going to be, you will have to test the waters or chum the waters. your biggest competitor maybe shell tech and skybox subs.

just to understand clearly.. i'm not gonna use the $520 and $420 figures cuz those are just arbitrary numbers.

Suppose a game costs 50USD online... how much would i get that game for using your service?

Remember many cannot order things online due to a lack of credit card/skybox and may prefer to use cash. If that is the case what would be more convenient, going to a store and collecting instantly or having to go to the bank, deposit then wait a few days for said game to arrive.

I think it comes down to price, many gamers are tech savvy and know about online ordering. Where is the value then in ordering from a local site/phone service? Aside from it arriving faster, is it going to be cheaper? I've used the Movietowne Gamez Plus a few times while their prices are $475 you do get the games right away.

4-7 days isn't really that fast since expedited shipping can get items here pretty quick, budget minded people like myself don't really mind waiting a few extra days for something to arrive.

Having an annual fee may be a turnoff, especially for the casual gamer.

Just some of my thoughts....

Ok look at it this way 400 per momth means u get the games at 100 less each...

The 4 -7 is if my suppliers don't have the game on hand ie an unusual request... If like most games they have in stock it will be delivered in 2-3 days in front your door... Or office which ever address u choose

As for the arbitrary's the price will be whole seller prices with the local shipping added only... The 400 is a loyalty fee so I can guarantee them I have the customers

ok u still havent clarify my question doh.. that would be the determining factor for me.

let me give you my scenario:
i order a ps3 game online @ 50USD.. i get it in hand 7 days late... i pay roughly 100TT including tax and shipping which is roughly 420TT in hand right.

what i'm asking is... what would i pay for that game if i came through your service

So far I expect it to be at 400$ for the game but If it's a pop one u'll get it within 2 days not 4-7.... Also I working to bargain for even lower prices thats why I need more customers to join, example the GATT community :)

Like I said if your prices are lower then you will get sales. I get what you are saying with the membership fee but since you are trying to grow your customer base that might hinder growth.

i have no problems paying the membership fee... 400 a year ain't that bad IIFFF his discounts are great...
and well i'm all about efficiency+effectiveness..
in my case.. i'm saving 20$ on a game... if i buy 10 games for the year i save $200, half of the subscription service... which means i get each game 5 days earlier by paying 20TT more... might be worth it...
once the math working out good i might try it

u should also look at maybe having a shorter subscription like 6 mths etc but idk

Yeah in order for this to work the discounts have to be decent. It would probably only work for those that buy many games. I don't really buy that many games per year probably 5 physical ones at most and the rest either via steam and PSN.

Prices not sounding bad, but for me I would use the money on my skybox/expedited shipping instead.

Honestly, GATT is not your audience...at all, well not the regulars anyway. id say 90% of us are the hardcore techie type who may even be able to get stuff cheaper and quicker than you can. $400 subscription fee, absolutely not.

If you haven't gone there, TriniTuner etc you will definitely have better luck there.

He just meant that the regular GATT folk are well versed in ordering stuff online, and many look for the best deals possible when spending hard earned coin. Nuthing wrong with giving support to a fellow GATTer however the large PC base we have here has been catching "steam" on digital downloads from Steam hehe :p.

Have to agree with El Capitan. Personally I bring my own stuff in for less than local retail cost so I'd rather spend that $400 on Amazon Prime or something.

This kinda stuff is hard to do with established stores like Sheltech, Games Plus, JK etc around with their loyal customer base and as far as I know all of these have limited/no online presence on Facebook. Facebook is where you should be pushing this hard, get a fan page and let your friends do the rest to help you out.
