UPDATE - It's been confirmed that this is the short film Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, which was made as a test film for a feature R-rated Mortal Kombat movie from Warner Bros. Pictures.

UPDATE 2 - No movie. However we are getting a 9-episode web mini-series. Should be awesome. Be on the lookout - April 12th, 2011 (on Machinima).

UPDATE 3 - Title of Web Series is now officially MK Legacy

UPDATE 2: Cat's out of the bag. This is for the movie, and it comes from the mind of genius fight choreographer Larnell Stovall. He's the guy who did the fights for the excellent Undisputed 3: Redemption, on DVD and Blu-Ray right now. I hope that this movie gets made with Larnell plotting the punches, because this guy isn't just a geek like us, he's also got an incredible skill and ambition to create the next generation of fight choreography.

I'm quite torn. I'm glad that the movie is finally as gruesome as you'd expect an MK movie to be. And, this does look like a rather interesting re-telling of the MK Universe, from a more realistic point of view.

...and yet, the whole mythos behind the MK Universe...I can't but feel a bit of a culture shock here.

And Johnny Cage dies again. Huzzah.

Well, let's see how it goes. My interest certainly is peaked, but, at the same time, so is my skepticism.
