...and for me its the opposite.

Linux gets s serious black mark against it for less than stellar wi-fi adapter support.

...and no...it's not possible to use it wired.

In Windows 8, it's literally plug and play.  Seriously.
I plug in the adapter, join wi-fi network, stream media.  That's it.  No muss, no fuss.

...and believe it or not, I actually kinda like the big, retarded metro UI for HTPC use on my TV.   :laughing7:

Have any of you guys using XBMC or Windows Media Center integrated with FLOW or Blink cable into their HTPC to utilize DVR functions built in. IF yes were there any loss of features or service.

Asrock G41M-VS3
Intel Core 2 Duo E7300
4 GB DDR3 - 1333
Assortment of GPUs:  GTS 450, HD 4650, HD 7750
80 GB Western Digital Velociraptor HDD (10K RPM)

Linksys WUSB600N wireless-N USB adapter (the 1st version, not the new one)

Not exactly beastly, but still almost overkill for a HTPC.

Oh,  Ubuntu discovered, and installed the drivers eh, but the media streaming itself is what was atrocious.

Me ent fighting up with that eh...it was just an experiment to see if it would trump Windows 8.  So far it's Windows 1 -  Linux 0.

Yeah, those specs should more than be able to handle it.

You sure its the wireless adapter causing the issue?

Try running a vid off an external hard drive and see if the performance is still atrocious.

Could mean an issue with another component (vid card maybe)

The 4650 would be perfect for an htpc. The 7750 would be overkill for real. lol

hmmm, lemme see:
MSI 880GM-E41 with ATI 4250HD integrated, HDMI out
AMD Athlon X2 250
4gb DDR3 1333
750gb Seagate hd
ASUS Blu-Ray drive
Tenda .n wireless PCI card
Lenovo N5902 RF remote

running Windows XP SP3, because I had a legit copy not in use, and wanted Blu-Ray support. Blu-Ray support in Linux is still lacking. Windows 8 32bit

Very solid.

What do you do for surround sound?

Saw no mention of speakers or such.

No surround sound, use the LG 42" LCD TV speakers. Other PC has a Logitech X-530, might re-purpose those, if I upgrade. Or wireless 5.1 or 7.1 headphones, I think.

Update: Logitech G930 wireless 7.1 headset

*gasp*

well on the plus side, it does make connectivity for your HTPC setup a lot less complicated.

No need for a receiver, optical cables, etc....

Well Guys, remember that room i said I was going to hand build myself starting last year in this post http://www.carigamers.com/cms/forums/index.php/topic,19787.msg293787.html#msg293787

Fast-forward a couple months minus my life savings along with my two testicles and here we are:

Started with a perfectly good Lawn
Uploaded with ImageShack.com

Then I wrecked it in the name of Home Theaterdom.
Uploaded with ImageShack.com

Once the concrete work was done (the concrete work I had help with as i not good with concrete). i got started on the bear brick walls to build my 2x4 framing exactly one inch away from the wall
Uploaded with ImageShack.com

Special clips to bind the 2x4 framing to the ceiling to help with vibrations and sound pressure from the woofers 4 stud walls were built independent of each other secured to ceiling by the clips Uploaded with ImageShack.com

Then i got started with the surface and insulation, the stud walls are stuffed with r19 insulation for thermal insulation and high frequency absorption, then one layer of 5/8"s ply, then 2 layers of 1/2" dry wall each layer with green glue compound for low frequency absorption
Uploaded with ImageShack.com

After that i built the riser to the rear of the room, also stuffed with R19, and two layers of 5/8"s with green blue and roofing felt in between. riser is 12" tall Uploaded with ImageShack.com

Same goes for the stage to the front of the room, only difference is stage is 10" tall, and the stage is packed with sand instead of R19 to stop vibrations from the woofers. equipment going in compartments to the front hidden with panels I will build later
Uploaded with ImageShack.com

Conduits for speaker wire, HDMI cables and power for equipment
Uploaded with ImageShack.com

work on speaker columns for looks and to house surround speakers

Panels with 45 degree angles for edge, all panels will be covered in acoustically transparent fabric Guilford of Maine

Thanks for the support fellahs,

Yeah a lot of work went into it boy phill, everything hand made even the various crown and base moldings etc,

I got detailed pics with write-ups of the entire process so far, but felt it was to much to post in this thread, arch might be on to something with having a thread for this build.

Correct is right trinigamer, I over in Cayman Islands
