thats not the point of the thread :S.. the point of the thread is to show your home theatre setup :S

sighs neways

@ capt.. u using a tv as ur main monitor? how u reading on that... with only 1080 Res?

Mines shows real good actually, i hock up a laptop to my set to pung Metal Slugs and them games on MAME and thing also to do work if i listening to music, and i can read good from 10 feet away, nice and clear, i think the highest res mines support over vga is 1680 or something like that so that’s what i run it on when the laptop is connected.

Yes its being used as my main monitor Yea the 1080p is not the best for reading text, not as clear and crisp as my 28" but VERY readable, even the small fonts.

WTMC @ IsMe2003's setup.

That's some hard core shit right there.

The receiver alone costs more than all my components put together save (the screen itself)

Not to mention the insane number of connections at the back. Options galore.

Hoping to get away without needing a receiver but if I win lotto, I'll definitely get me one of those.

Lol @ lotto

Yeah boy i admit i is ah serious fellah when it comes to the home theater sceens

yeah the receiver have plenty options, I sure you can snipe one on Amazon or a smaller model if you looking for something that will give you auto switching of all your devices, i program everything into the Harmony, i press one button and everything switching to the correct inputs/outputs, you can hock up iPod, PC, what ever yua have.

Not just that to but the receiver can upscale shit from 480 to 720i and 1080i, it can clean noise out of the source signals, perform a wad of various sound processing, all kinda shit yes.

The manual switching thing, you have to get up anytime you want to change, and eventually sometimes the boxes start creating noise especially with a Hi Diff display like yours.

Tell me about it. That manual switching is my greatest concern now.

Hooking up all of this kit and then having to do up a "Process Flow Diagram" just for the wifey to get audio when she wants to watch cable. lol

Auto Switching is the solution as well as a universal remote

Right now we have at least four remotes in the living room making for some serious digital chaos.

Judging from your setup, that receiver and harmony remote will be the brain of the operations to make everyone play nice.

No fuss, no fight. Home Theatre Heaven.

Just can't afford it at the moment. Already broke the bank on the screen.

Is there anything you'd recommend for say TT$2500.00 that would achieve auto switching? (That's my speaker budget right there)

Definitely buying two lotto and cashpot tickets in the morning yes.

Yeah boy a receiver and a universal, you cant go wrong

Well in that price range you can get some half descent entry level receivers that should work for your current setup

1st choice yua can get ah Onkyo TX-SR507, the Onkyo TX-SR607 better but a bit more pricy (likw 100US more or somethign so), you can snipe the Onkoy easy on Amazon, i owned the 607 it was boss, I don’t think is to much difference from the 507

2nd choice is you can pick up a Denon AVR590 or AVR1610  (Also available on Amazon) real nice entry level again, never owned one but hear them in action

It had some nice entry level from Marantz like the 4002 and 4003 but they had to find as they stop making them

check them out and see if any fit yoru budget, the SR507 or avr1610 will be a sweet addition to your setup.

Seeing the SR507 for US$314.00

http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-TX-SR507-5-1-Channel-Surround-Receiver/dp/B001VEI290

and the harmony one for $178.00 (The Harmony 1100 looking real sexy too, US$300 though)

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Harmony-Universal-Remote-Screen/dp/B002RL875A/ref=acc_glance_e_ai_BST_t_8

That's US$500.00 altogether (about 4 grand landed if customs decided to get hard and veiny with duty and vat)

And still, got no speakers/headphones.  Running the X 230 through that system would probably make them explode in disgust. lol

At least the future looks bright, putting these two on my amazon wish list. Christmas coming soon. Will spring for the z5500 for now (as it's cheap and comes with a faux receiver) and hook up that manual toslink switcher arc recommended.

When Santa Claus rolls around and drops the Onkyo, Harmony and a set of 5.1 speakers to match down the chimney in December, I'll send the Z5500 upstairs to do yeoman's service on the PC.

A Home Theatre is only as good as its source and since they gonna be watching cable on this 95% of the time, I spoke to Flow about HD TV.

Apparently they have a PVR cable box that gives HDMI out. It's a $1000 deposit and $149.99 a month.

The Motorola DCT - 3416

Can even double as your cable modem (but not seeing any phone jacks on it, so I doubt flow will use it for that purpose)

Anyone have any experiencing with this box in their HT?

Yeah that plan making sense, the z5500 won’t disappoint in the interim,

man that The Harmony 1100 it is look sweet eh, when padnahs come over is the kinda device that will extra a response like "WTMC is THAT!  :awesome: ", but as far as usability go, that dam thing is as effective as ah ipad for me dread, i mean yau have to hold it with both hands at all times, i cant just grab it and increase volume easy or just change ah channel with one hand, i is have to put down meh popcorn or meh beer, then grab it and change stuff, and talk bout finger print!!, yau spend more time shining the dam thing  :cwm10:, the only advantage to me of the 1100 over the Harmony One is that it can control both RF and IR devices cause it have ah RF module for it but thats about it the Harmony one layout is perfect and falls in nice with the regular remotes yua device comes with

i see that cable box got an rj45, maybe if it dub as the cable modem one time yua just plug it into yau wireless router or something via rj45 and yua online?

Flow is offer HD channels? or they is just do ah smart man up convert?

Consoles and Cable Box hooked up to the TV like so:
PS3 (HDMI)
Wii (Component)
XBOX 360 (HDMI)
Cable Box (Composite)
PC (VGA and male to male 3.5mm cable)

TV outputs audio via composite to Stereo 3.5 mm (Y cable) to the Z5500

Obviously this arrangement ain't gonna deliver true surround sound.

It just plays sound from all speakers (which fools everyone in the house) but I'll need to get some digital coax and optical cables in the mix to maintain the 5.1 from the audio sources (360, PS3 and PC)

All in good time

suhuweat!!!!!!!

Flow says they have HD channels but I didn't bother to take the box cause they said they won't have the world cup in HD. steups. Won't be watching TV otherwise.

Wonder if Dish network available in Trinidad?

Why you using vga for pc output? Your card comes with a dvi to hdmi converter and im positive you have free hdmi ports on that tv.

Right now my pc is connected to my tv by a straight hdmi gold plated cable, talk about crisp and clear signal immc.

doh make joke?

Time to rummage through that old video card box.

Had planned to order a DVI to HDMI cable online but if what you say is true, I can just grab a HDMI cable locally for under a $100 and fix up.

steups...can't find my 4870 box anywhere.

weak

some female probably disposed of it in a bid to eliminate clutter
