Hoss, why limit it to 50 or greater. Right now I looking into something between 32 and 42 inches, 1080p resolution only to be used as a monitor.

Thanks Hard O/C

Will make a pass at Comfort Zone to see if they have additional models available as well as Courts.

@ Awesome re: 50" and greater......cause is world cup and I need the most screen for the buck to watch Brazil steamroll the other nations, lol

Won't hurt for the PS3, 360 and home theatre experience either.

Finished running Recon @ Pricesmart. Slim pickings....but what they lacked in quantity....they made up for in quality.

Here are the findings:

52" Sony Bravia (Model: kdl-52vl150)
Pricesmart: $13,999.99
http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/sony-bravia-kdl52vl150-canada/1707-6482_7-33751064.html
(Cnet shows this as discontinued and I can't find it on amazon.com, major red flag)

55" Toshiba Regza (Model: 55ZV650U)
Pricesmart: $14,999.99
http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-REGZA-55ZV650U-55-Inch-ClearScan/dp/B001TOD3JQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1275097008&sr=8-1

4.5  out of 5 stars on Amazon.

Read through some of the rave reviews posted by customers....possible design flaw that causes an issue with sound over HDMI. Other than that, its a winner.

Next stop CircuitZone in the morning.

got damn! that samsung is like twice the price of the Toshiba @ Pricesmart.

same goes for the bravia.

They just overcharging? Or are those TVs twice as good as Pricesmart's offering? Is LED backlighting worth double the money?

I hear you Hard O/C...and concur. Way too much for the LED right now. Does look better....but not enough to justify twice the mc price. I could get so much more gear for that additional  $10,000

I'll upgrade to LED in a couple years when it gets reasonable.

Completed more recon this morning, here is the raw data

I'd say go with either the

52" Toshia Regza LCD 52XV645U
$13,888

or

LG 55" LED LCD 55LH90
$20,000

I have seen a toshiba regza in action and the video quality is pretty sweet and well I am also assuming that you are considering the price too.

I said the LG also cause it seems to be the cheapest LED that you've got out of the lot. No I'm not all expert on tvs but I sure as hell aint paying more than 14k for a tv....

Updated the main page to show all the reviews and pix of the various sets

Yes Notnice, that LG 55" is an amazing set.

Beyond my budget at the moment. Will have to get me some LED loving in the next three years, when they are down to $10k or so.

The Toshiba Regza line (those models listed) have an audio issue over HDMI. Fantastics screens by all accounts, but the audio echos and gets distorted after a few hours over HDMI.

Tons of reports online, not a chance I'm willing to take.

It also explains why the 55" Regza is so cheap. Had me suspicious but now I know why.

Based on all the reviews and pricing....the Sharp 52" 52E77UN gets the prize.

Time to see if the Master Chief and Kratos agrees.

OK, setup this bad boy last night and these are my first impressions.

ITS HUGE

Intimidatingly so.

Didn't appear that way in the store but now that its sitting in the living room, the thing seems bloody out of place.

I could just imagine what would happen with a 55 or a 63.

Setup was painless, screw in the stand, plug in the power cord and boom. Good to go

Has a bazilion inputs (about 8 ) so connecting up all my gear wasn't a problem.

PS3, 360, Wii, etc...

First test:

The 360.

At first, I was very dissappointed. Graphics didn't seem much better. Then I realized you had to flip a little switch embedded in the xbox 360s video cable to enable HD. (Wtf??)

Now the dashboard looked sexy but Halo ODST still looked about the same. It's not a Full HD game (runs at 640p resolution) but I was still hoping for some improvement.

Next stop, the Wii.

Horrible.  A complete embarrasment.

Then came the PS3.

Tekken 5 DR was simply breathtaking at 1080p. Sleek and pristine. The intros were impeccable as was the gameplay.

Big surprise though when I popped in Tekken 6 and noticed that the graphics took a dive.

Apparently Tekken 6 is not Full HD whereas it's predecessor was. Go figure.

God of War 3 was also dissappointing, which is also not a Full HD game.

Something to keep in mind.

Next stop, testing the 52" as a monitor for movies/PC gaming.

Quick update,

Changed the Wii from 480i mode to 480p mode and it made a big difference.

The graphics are acceptable now.

Still no match for the 360/PS3 obviously but no longer a murky mess of pixels.

Strange that goin from 480i to 480p would have that effect. Go figure.
