Cool, never used any of that. Wouldn't photoshop on a netbook as the screen too small. I get alot of reports/projects done on MS Office tho.

boy, since ATI fix the loading times of BC2, I haven't felt the desperate need for this again.
but trust me, the minute some big game reaching that taking long to load, is ssd/hybrid immc

OK guys, got my hands on this bad boy
500 GB 2.5 inch
My previous drive, upon opening the leet asus was already a seagate momentus drive
7200 rpm 500 Gb ( with a hidden unused 150 gig partition, wda was that about asus??)
So you may think no big diff?
Ghosted my first HD.
Threw it on new HD
zomg pace
The asus does this weird thing on startup, before post, it just sits their doing i have no idea what, but its doing stuff, then it post, then it does this splash screen with the asus ROG symbol and a loud *BOOOOOOOOOMMMM* while an explosion goes off ( i know, awesome) thennnnnnnn win 7 boots, whole process takes close to a minute.
Threw in the xt
and iam inside windows in about 15 seconds.
Gotta do some PS work and sweat some battle field and SC and see if i can feel the diff there.
I had some performance issues with BF on last HD, which i chalked up to the gfx card
lets see if this fanciness would help.

On a related note it is interesting to see how actual performance has improved over time...
http://hothardware.com/Reviews/Unsung-Heroes-14-Years-of-HDD-Performance/
"Of all the components in a typical PC, the hard drive is typically viewed as the least sexy and most scorned. When AMD or Intel launch a new CPU, they fill PR statements with promises of incredibly fast databases and improved 3D rendering. If AMD and NVIDIA launch new GPUs, the Intertubes hum with promises of realistic graphics, higher resolutions, and multi-monitor gaming. When the likes of Western Digital or Seagate launch a new hard drive, the product is hailed as a more efficient means of storing por...umm, data. Useful? Very. High class or sexy? Not so much. To add insult to injury, hard drives are often dragged into conversations on completely different topics. HDD performance is trotted out to explain why faster CPUs or streamlined operating systems don't matter.
We decided to take a look at how standard, spinning hard drive performance has evolved over the past 14 years. We rounded up a representative group of hard drives, formatted them, scanned them for bad sectors, and ran a few modern benchmarks to see how much performance has improved. Because this project uses drives we had lying around, there are some gaps we would've preferred to fill. Given our druthers, we'd have included a Seagate 'Cuda IV and either a 72GB or 150GB Raptor, along with the latest 600GB model. "

These figures are a little less impressive than I had hoped for these drives.
They are completely decimated by the pure ssd drives and only barely trump a regular 7200rpm seagate drive.
Just that SSDs are still so expensive compared but lets hope Santa is generous for 2010
What has been your experience with games crixx?
I'm thinking these 13GB monsters need go get into cache/vid memory as quickly as possible. Would be interesting to see how the hybrid handles those.

13gb what, games?
The way I see it, ssd's are nice, but for the price they are more of a luxury because lets face it, once your os/games load, you're good to go. Splurge on the memory, ditch ur page file and use a decent hdd the average user may barely notice the difference.
That said, ah want a ssd, at least a 120gig just for OS and 2 or 3 games I play the most. Must come down to $200us or less for that size though.

you said it exactly, 13gb games, and that game has to "load".
Ram ain't gonna help you load that any faster.
It still has to leave your hard drive to enter into the computer memory at some point, regardless of how much ram you've got.
totally agreed at the price needing to be US$200.00 for about 120gb which is why I'm so excited by this news:
http://www.slashgear.com/intel-120gb-x25-m-ssd-arrives-along-with-price-cuts-12113829/
Now we've got the following:
40GB: US$99.99
80GB: US$199.99
120GB: US$249.99
160GB: US$415.00
The 120GB works out the cheapest coming in at US$2.00 per megabyte.
Still, its $49.99 more than I'd hope to pay.
Very tempted all the same.

the 40 and 80 doh make sense at all and yeah the real ssds does uppercut these hybrids.
BUT on a laptop, you feel the difference.
Besides my decreased boot time, i also have a hell of alot easier ride with photoshop and large images.
Gaming.. well i play sc2 and bf and wow on my lappy.
SC2.. didnt need any boosting, perfect game.
Wow.. well nothing to compare it to as i didnt play it before.
BFBC2 now!!
Before i used to shy away from bc on my lappy and only play it on desktop
my previous hd was also a 7200 rpm so i would have just chalked it up to my weaker gfx card on my lappy.
But since installing and running it on this new drive.
I dont stutter, dont lag, dont have any problems running bf at all on the lappy.
on medium settings iam perfectly fine.
So i would say for something as heavy as bf, its noticeable, but for things like wow and sc that already not demanding, probably wont notice any difference.
and this is a 500 gig drive, so at least on the laptop platform, it delivers.. untill a 500 gig intel ssd is like 150, lol, then id recommend this.

True @ still have to load from the hdd. I just meant a general feel of speed would come with having no page file and everything fit in memory.
Interesting findings abt faster hdd = less lag in game. By chance you have some before and after avg framerates? Possibly the fresh windows reload gave the impression of more speed?
