Best GPU for a E8400 CPU 5850 vs 5870 vs 470!

What is the best GPU for a E8400 CPU 5850 vs 5870 vs 470!
My concerns are bottenecking, Image Quality, Movie playback quality!

EVIDENCE FROM REVIEWS AND SITE BENCHMARKS, PERSONAL BENCHMARKS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!
I am coming from a dead HD 4870 512mb I loved and do not want a lesser experience!

i have 2 x 5770 in crossfire with a 3.6GHZ quad core, and now my cpu is the bottleneck in my system.

So my advice at your cpu level would be the 5850 (since my 2x5770 performs on par and better than that card in some respects)

your cpu would still cap the maximum potential of the card but you will get great performance

Man have same CPU, board and monitor as me, yes!

Any of those video cards are fine, I will be going with HD5850 (upgrading from GTX260) when I go Core i7 hopefully before the end of the year. I leave it to other to post up benchies.

My only thought is if you using a higher card than the 5850, the monitor probably shound be a bigger one (1900 or higher res)

Look for hardoc's benchmarks in his benchmark thread

He has put all manner of systems together around dual core intels so that may give you a good idea.

I'd say your best bet at that resolution is to look for either a 5770 or 5830. A 5850 or higher will go severely underutilized with the cpu you are currently running.

No doubt you'll be going quad core in the future.

If you're gonna upgrade cpu soon, yes go for the 5850, if not, see my above recommendation.

get a 5770 and chill out, your rig could last a good year or 2 again if you don't plan on gaming at > 1920x1200 you should be ok with mid high settings in game and low post processing. when time come to move to new platform, add another 5770 -> gtg

let us know what kinda games you run mostly would help in the decision also

From the last guy It might be better to buy a 5770 and more memory 2-4gb ddr2 instead of a 470 or a 5850 ( I personally don't think so but it is a consideration!)

i wouldn't even consider the 470 a contender, because of the power consumption and thermal ass-rapery (power consumption should not be overlooked, remember you still paying power bill)

you aint even save a lil bit self, the cheapest 470 is like 350 the cheapest 5850 is like 299

from bit-tech and i believe other review sites, the power consumption and heat is more than the 5850 and even 5870

even with the small edge over the 5850 in some titles, this is not worth it

look at it this way

5770 + more memory (don't spend more than USD50 or so 4gb is more than enough to run game, normal man doh task switch between game...well some do but not usually) = a somewhat better experience in your games plus a system that is more responsive thanks to less paging, the least bottlenecking if any at all (never test this card on a dual can't say) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102864

5850 = great experience, but with 2gb ram you still pagin so the occasional stutter, and you have a DEFINITE bottle neck while you wait to upgrade another part, and in that time, this card will prob get cheaper (as will the 5770). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102884

with the 5770 route you come out cheaper, you do not get a downgrade in performance and when the time comes to switch platforms you can add another 5770 for more than likely cheaper and win the game.

I think anything more than a single 5850 for 16x10 is overkill, especially wheb you are limiting it to a dual core.

5770/5830 is win unless u planning to upgrade other components.

indeed captain awesome does have a point, i have a crappy quad q9400 2.6ghz with a ati 5870, and certainly the bottleneck is my cpu, so my frame rate gets limited.....  so unless ur going to upgrade that cpu u dont need spend a ton of cash on a video card
