^^ Yup twas why he wasn't mentioned lol.

But yea, the benchmark for most would be the last 2 previous films. All things considered this one prolly had the best choreography and action set pieces in a Batman film to date.

hahhaha @ leroy jenkins.

@zerk....I blame Avengers for raising the bar too high for action sequences in a comic book movie.

Find it a little surprising that you weren't underwhelmed by the fights zerk.

I quote "The League of Shadows was a group of vigilante ninjas led by Ra's al Ghul in the film Batman Begins and led by Talia al Ghul in The Dark Knight Rises. "

Did at any moment in those Bat vs Bane fights....did you see anything remotely resembling a battle between two vigilante ninjas???

Wyatt is chalk and cheese man .......Avengers was bunch of SUPERPOWERED people and a DEMIGOD running around the place , with Hawkman and whoever Scarlett Johanssen's character was

You can't compare the two.... plus batman was being more realistic in it fight sequences ... only thing that bothered me about the movie was what they did with bane....

but hands down this was indisputably miles better than avengers story wise and all round movie wise.....:awesome:

I heard that the mask was a constant release of anasthetic that Bane needed due to the pain of his injuries sustained in the prison. Without it, the pain would've been too much to bear. That's why when Bruce got a couple LUCKY shots in at the mask, Bane started to lose it. He couldn't focus. He got stronger but couldn't focus.

As for the fight choreography, I honestly expected more for 3 reasons:

1. Both Bane and Bruce are ninjas trained by Ra's al Ghul. NINJAS... Nuff said.
2. Tom Hardy could REAL F.N. fight so I was expecting that to be maximised.
3. It is canon that Bane is the man who BROKE Batman's back, that's why I was excited to hear that Bane was the villian in the first place. Ppl could hardly lay a SCRATCH on the Bat so for a man to actually break his back, I wasn't expecting "bitch lix, break back and tote feelins". I was expecting an EPIC fight with an UBER-EPIC rematch.  I think that's a fair expectation to have and it wasn't met imo. The movie was BESS though, I just expected better actual fights.

As for "eclipsing the Joker", THAT is an unfair expectation. It was even a rule on set that the Joker was to be found NOWHERE in the script, true story. After a timeless performance like that, referencing the Joker in TDKR would've been akin to the film shooting itself in the foot just before a 100m race.

I thought that was obvious lol.

They used Ra's combat training and adding their own variances to it. The same reasons I stated in my first spoiler post above still apply.

In fact you can say they both abandoned the League, Bruce leaving and Bane being excommunicated. Only logical they would add their own stuff to the training itself.

Yea I know they were ninjas but what you expect ... running up some bamboo in gotham like the ninja fights of old?? ... hehe

the fact of the matter is the fight sequences were REAL I mean bane is huge so he relies on strength not agility and well

this batman as was stated previously was bogged down with his armor so acrobatics were just not possible....

so I think they did good with what they had to work with but to each his own ....

N.B.

IT would've been cool tho if he could've moved like batman from Arkham Asylum/City :awesome:

Also please consider, batman was supposed to be at least close to his forties, and 8 years out of realtime combat, the fights werent going to be jet-li quality.

This guy gets it!

This is precisely what I am saying, precisely.

And Mez, talking bout close to his forties??

Look at the age of the ninja in this movie...man had to be clocking late fifties. If not over 60.

Fighting a man a generation or two younger. EPIC Battle.

Bruce have no excuse.

Oh LAWD, a man draw for Sho Kosugi. Wyatt, even I hadda say dat ain't fair, lol. Sho Kosugi is the ORIGINAL movie ninja.

As far as Bane's size goes, he STILL moved like a freakin CAT, hoss. He made Bats look predictable. Every dodge, block, parry and counter was essentially Bane sayin "B!tch plz...". He toyed, TOYED with Batman. That's why I have 2 as is in my list. Tom Hardy could REALLY fight. Batman on the other hand just looked like a desperate kid fighting a bully, bawling and hollering down the place before each wave of blows.

Batz:"HNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGR..." *whap, whap, whap, pow, slap*

Dafuq? No kinda sophistication, just a desperate struggle against the odds fueled only by raw survival instinct. That's all well and good but if I wanted to watch desperation, I'd watch "The Karate Kid" with Ralph Macchio. Raw survival instinct AIN'T Batman. I thought at least after he left the prison he'd find a new level of zen and some BESS fightin would show up but alas, no... All he did was gargle gravel and brawl his way to a couple lucky shots at Bane's mask.

I say again, the movie was BESS. It's just that the fighting... Dafuq, jed?

Did ppl really miss the part about him being out for 8 yrs and then just deciding to jump back in the game? Yet you still wanted the man to move lightning fast with precision, Really? Even Alfred warned him that he isn't what he used to be back when he started.

So the fights were not to your liking or what you wanted, time to get over it and cease from carrying this on because frankly we passed the end of this discussion a while now. Carrying on about "this" certain aspect of the film now will just result in regurgitation of points.

The fights here were the best in Nolan's franchise but who knows maybe you might get (emphasis on might) the hyper/kinetic/over the top fights you want in a Batman film with the next franchise just don't hold your breath it can go either way.

NOW I'll be leaving it as it is.

*Buh a a... Ah NOW jump in de ting and ppl gettin testy? Anyways... I happen to like where the discussion is going so...

With respect to his outfit, Lucius Fox made mods to his costume since TDK because he "couldn't turn around" so he changed the material to something lighter and more flexible. It was still knife-proof but no longer bulletproof. That was the trade-off for more speed and agility so he wasn't as bogged down as it seemed.

And NO, I didn't miss that part, Archer. I'm not talking about being able to bounce on bamboo or pulling Dim Mak out of his ass on the first try. I mean the entire feel of the fights. Not being as sharp is one thing. Batman looking/screaming like some second-rate n00b is completely another. No sense of composure, control, NOTHING. Just desperately flailing limbs... Even in a weakened physical state, that kind of n00biness from a man who is ALWAYS supposed to have a plan SUX imo. Batman has to get lucky to win? Since bloody when?

I've seen enough action and fight choreography to know that a fight doesn't have to be ELABORATE to be impressive. It just has to be smart. I can even give you an example: Equilibrium, 2nd fight between Bale and Taye Diggs. Short, sweet, smart and more than explicable.

You're right to say that we shouldn't expect "sharp" from a retired Bat. I never disputed that. I however expected "smart" but I got "desperate, screaming n00b who lucked out". In my opinion, "smart" is a reasonable expectation from The Batman.

It was the best movie I saw for the year, I don't really care to critique it cause I was thoroughly entertained from start to finish. No point in comparing it to Avengers, unless you want to start comparing superman, green latern and the justice league cast to the xmen (who do you really think would win) and I don't see why ppl b1tching about the fight scenes so much, the 'flailing and screaming n00b' played well to show a desperate, back to the wall, weakened character which was much more important for building up to 'the dark know rises' than a 'the raid' class face off that lasts 10 minutes with men running on water and breaking through the ceiling. And after breaking your back, and recovering in an unrealistic fashion and timeframe (which NOONE HERE seems to think odd) yal only concern is the fight scene? really? man movie of the year talk done game over.

Someone give Q a prize!

And here is another view from the esteemed halls of internet comments (where the most revered intellectuals voice their opinions, youtube, lol)

Quote
Funniest thing about this movie is that Batman gets his ass kicked in a hand-to-hand fight, then after coming back decides to do another hand-to-hand fight. No non-lethal weapons? Maybe rubber bullets, a taser, pepper spray, anything? Nope, just goes right back in for more suicide, because it worked so well the first time...
Make no mistake, I loved the film, but it seemed silly that Batman has nothing but his fists and legs to non-lethally combat his enemies with.

Very solid flick but they could have catapulted this into EPIC by fixing these brawls man.

lol @ flying on bamboo.

Yeah, not so extreme, of course.....but to give another example.....the fights in the first Sherlock Holmes movie. Around the same age as batman and surprise surprise, he's also a detective. Those fist fights were epic and showed brilliance.

Tbh, the character sherlock holmes protrayed by iron man is above and beyond what american psycho's superhero was EVER made to be, I think the comparison of those two is similar only in paper stats but like many 'synthetic benchmarks' really don't add up to substance irl. There are ALOT of other problems with the film *cough back breaking* that as I said NOONE has a problem with, but a man going back into a slugfest is the biggest irk yal have? I think yal have too much time on your hands, and doesn't anyone remember that in the cartoon, comic, etc bane always fell to what? his venom tubes being cut? I mean really, if its ALWAYS that easy, why hasn't bane ever gotten titanium armoured piping? fact is in ANY movie there are a MILLION things that don't add up, or that COULD be done better, so what? if yal enjoyed it SO much (as everyone has said in this thread), why are we suddenly finding small flaws? or worse why don't yal just change to 'I HATED THAT unrealistic, poorly constructed, slow, lost in translation superhero movie that didn't have a bold demi god'

It is a movie after all and given wide berth on the subject of reality.

Which is PRECISELY why we would take issue with something that should be as epic as the Batman vs Bane fight.

If its one area where they could have gone a little over the top, was there.

Spoiler (hover to show)

Facepalm* this still going on?

What W1ntry said x 1 Mil.

Now you're just stretching out points that were made before now, Im pretty sure in my first set of posts the answers are there for what you seek, look carefully, read between the lines etc. its there. They went as far as they could with a reality based Batman. It was never really obvious if his back was broken or damaged but the fact that they went all the way to say vertebra was protruding so they gonna push it back in prolly says that it was just damaged. Now I just see nitpicks all around, The Avengers was riddled with stupid moments but I didn't see anybody complaining about that because it fulfilled the A.D.D appetite of today's movie going audiences. And I mean because you think that was how it should have been done or wanted it that way doesn't make it right. It fit in with the context of what Nolan intended and for the record in the comics he does not fight "hyper/kinetic/ninja style all the time. So like W1ntry, said talk done.

What W1ntry said was there were far greater failings in the show....and that the poor fights were but minor quibbles compared and should be overlooked in contrast.

You really wanna say that x 1million??

And come on Archer. We (some of us anyway) are enjoying the discussion about the movie.

Why does it sound like you want us to quit talking about it? Isn't that the very reason we created this thread in the first place???

It is testimony to how great the film was that men are taking time to come on a forum and comment.
