All I can say is run...not walk, but RUN, to get this one.
Played a marathon session with my brother last night.
He brought his Xbox over, and with me on one screen, and him on another, decided to give the SP co-op a whirl...
I cannot put into words JUST HOW AWESOME THIS GAME IS.
I know single-player co-op has been done before, but WOW.
Setting up and then flawlessly executing sync-shots just never gets old. We were actually able to beat the 3rd mission
without triggering a single alarm. Coordination, timing and teamwork is key. It's way too easy to miss a shot and screw
up an ambush, and you can't run-and-gun your way out of trouble when you raise an alarm either. You MUST methodically
dispatch your foes while moving from cover to cover. The enemy AI actually will try to flank you and will often run for cover themselves.
Your teammate AI is laudable as well...they aren't just there to make up numbers. They will dispatch foes and draw fire to allow you to take
them down easier. It's a real treat when your carefully planned assault goes off without a hitch.
The new 'Gunsmith' mode I feel should be in EVERY shooter from here on out.
The level of customisation here delighfully intricate, but everything is explained, so you don't need to be a gun expert.
Gun experts would probably be on a live-fire shooting range shooting these guns anyway.
In past Ghost Recon games you could attach/detach your suppressor depending on the circumstance within a mission. Here, you have to choose
suppressors from the Gunsmith, beforehand, so they're on all mission, which would have been OK, were it not for the damage penalty when you
have the suppressor attached, but stealth is paramount, so how could you NOT have a suppressed weapon. A minor gripe though...the gameplay
MORE than makes up for it.
What I also like is the fact that your optic camouflage auto-activates once you're crouched or prone. You instantly 'de-cloak'
when you fire or stand up. You can actually move quickly from cover to cover, but only using the 'cover swap' feature, and
the cloak will stay on. It's not foolproof though...enemies who are close by will still see you, so you can't abuse it and think you can just
walk up and say hi. Still, it's invaluable during the stealthy bits.
'Disappointing'? Nope. Far from it.
