this game is the WORST!!! lawd you play this game on easy an you fighting an enemy like the setting on INSANE an your team mates? nowhere when you need them to revive you or refill your ammo. It has its ups an downs but when it comes to the AI it SUCKS!!! I am stuck on the Shipyard level where you have to hack the missile command box an there are no operatives to be found when you secure the area only to be overrun by the opposition in seconds.

I cannot agree with you in the least.

Fired this up last night and had the worrldddd of fun!!
Had zero problems with team play, and i actally used the terrain like it was intended to.

Lovinnggg the customization options,
Made a rasta man in red white and black.

Zero problem passing any of the stages, lovvingg the parkour too.

After more extensive play, I can now highlight what Brink is, and what it isnt.

Brink isnt new and genre breaking, its a pleasant mix of some pre existing genres.

It takes its classes, and character design from Team Fortress
Its weapons pretty much from counter strike and team fortress.
Its parkour from mirror's edge, except it didnt port the roll that you would do after jumping from a height, that is a basic standard of parkour, it instead just ignores fall damage and gives you a slide.
It has great team objective based game play, rewarding carrying out objectives and holding objective points more than it does kills and kill streaks.
All while telling a decent enough storyline, even through the multiplayer aspect.

What it is, is a replacement for Team Fortress, counter strike and mirrors edge.

What it isnt, is a replacement for BFBC2 and .. well.. any of the good CODS, read, not MW2.

I will see if the game opens up into a deeper game at higher levels.
The stage design is nice and the music is pretty tolerable.

Its no hardcore FPS like our staples though.

lol u really strugglin on easy?

i agree ur AI teammates are the worst but enemy bots on normal rel easy to kill, the problem lies in actually gettin ur AI teamates to back u up

as for revives and ammo, the always come to rez u, if they get taken out u cant expect a rez an not everyone on ur team will b a medic

Its parkour from mirror's edge, except it didnt port the roll that you would do after jumping from a height, that is a basic standard of parkour, it instead just ignores fall damage and gives you a slide.

This is false. It's hard to get, but there *IS* fall damage. I was doing a review for the game by playing an online match, and I jumped from a very very high spot to show no fall damage, and I took damage. I thought I'd been shot, so I repeated the feat twice. Took damage. It just leaves damage-taking from falling to extreme amounts, stuff that'd break legs. It sort of makes sense, a 15-foot fall onto standing legs isn't going to make you die faster from being shot; but from 30 feet your pain threshold probably starts getting taxed... ;)

Also, you don't slide when jumping from a great height (not automatically).

I really wish more peeps played this game; it's hard finding a good server with good people. VOIP is off on standard configs, Advanced configs turn on Friendly Fire, and custom can be pretty much anything. This means that you either type, or have people you automatically work well with. So far I've had two servers where I automatically murdered the other team with minimal communication to my teammates. Thankfully their dedicated server code is free to use, I might set one up on my desktop sometime for us Trinis to get some good time in (assuming you all have it). Just make sure you have flow =3.

Now if we had admins to get rid of the couple haxxors I've seen...

Oh yeah, and to someone who posted a long time ago, if you see this, you can make a fireteam in brink with its own separate voice chat (and voice chat button); akin to a squad in BF:BC2. Except the VOIP works. So yes, you can play with friends.

wait wait, did I read write?

They have dedicated server code that freely available??

Haven't seen that in what, five years?

Not much local hype around this game. Why not?

And well now its gonna be even more difficult with Battlefield 3 coming.

Yes you did. It's there, for free, in steam tools to download. So is Homefront Servers. I don't even have homefront, and I could run a server for it.

And as for local hype, it's because the majority of local gamers are STILL console-based first. Not only are console gamers in general more of a "me first" mentality rather than team-based, but the game actually does suck on the consoles. I really don't know why they brought it out for them, honestly. It's clearly strongly centered toward the PC.

The flip, funny side is, when we, the PC gamers, complained about PC versions of games sucking/not being up to par (and the console games are fine for being on a console/work better than the PC), the game still gets high ratings because it works on an Xbox. But now that it sucks on Xbox and is glorious on PC, it gets low ratings, and people who don't know and use that as a base will not buy. I actually, honestly consider the console versions and the PC version of Brink to be two separate games. Oh, did I mention it uses OpenGL for graphics? It isn't bound by DirectX for its visuals.

thats not why it didnt pick up on pc...

it didnt pick up because money is valuable, so we check reviews before we play the game... the reviews of this game sucked... and it sucked for good reason hence on to better stuff.. dont have time/money to play subpar games

I see it doing 60's over at gamerankings.com

http://www.gamerankings.com/pc/960409-brink/index.html

Yeah, that is a bit low.

I'm with you on spending money on top rated titles first Phoenix. Too many good games out there and dollars tight.

75% and up ftw

Seems the rest of the gaming world agrees. Just dialed up the stat-o-meter on steam and Brink has only 1300 people playing online, total. Compared to 60,000 for counter strike source and 30,000+ for COD.

Pity though because dedicated servers is a feature we have been missing from every top rated shooter released in recent times. A real shame.

My point, Phoenix31tt, is that Brink is a fantastic and fun game, and review sites do not give accurate reviews of it by reviewing only on the Xbox. You proved my point by checking said incorrect reviews based on a different version of the game. It's like reading how Black Ops on the PC works then deciding against grabbing it for the Xbox.

Brink IS a great game, and if more people played it (like in the first couple weeks of release, when there were TONS more bugs than there are now) then it'd be completely worth the cash. I wish it turns into a sleeper hit for the PC, and picks up again later. It's more a shame that few play it rather than it is a "waste" of money.

Every non-streamlined PC review I've seen has stated that "if you want it, and have friends who'll play it, get it. If not, pass it by". And with the last huge patch last month, which rendered that review I was making useless (the patch came out the morning after I tried uploading the video to youtube; the upload failed for some reason, and I never bothered re-uploading it, the changes were that phenominal), the game is now mechanically amazing. Where have you seen largely bashing reviews?
