Risen
« on: October 13, 2009, 01:39:03 PM »
Anyone checked this title out?

I've never really played this type of game running around collecting stuff etc etc but I fired it up last night for the first time and it looks pretty promising both in visuals and gameplay.

here's a link http://risen.deepsilver.com/blog/pages/en/news/news.php

Never thought I'd actually play one of these but the change of pace is needed  :happy0203:

Still trying to find a damn frying pan to cook food though  :ko:

wow didnt think anyone else tried it

the pan is located upstairs in the first house btw u just need to get the key for the chest. :awesome:

the graphics arent anything special, looks great in some places but washed out in others. The graphics arent the real focus here anyways.

The combat (at first) is kinda dry and uninspiring.

But boy does it change later on. (mages rock!) this is what you call a 'hardcore' rpg, much akin to other games like the gothic series,(minus the bugs!) with a meatier story and a pretty hefty difficulty level.

this aint no fable btw, the combat is challenging and the A.I for wolves especially, is very impressive. voice acting is decent with some dry humor, and though the graphics are kind of weak, the atmosphere is stellar. this seems to have been a labor of love, and getting into the game shows that.

there is a lot to appreciate here, but its an 'acquired' taste, if after the first hour or so you cant appreciate the style of gameplay then it isnt for u.

Oblvion and this cant really compare nah. production value trumps oblivion way above, but its the little details in the gameplay that makes this a viable rpg in its own right.

this game rewards exploration above all else, and the tremendous focus on searching out books and finding various plants for alcheimical potions and concotions shows this. I mean you actually have to learn how to create scrolls in a school, get a quil, a book and the requiste ingredients to create one, and then develop the requiste skill for each one. the way the development of these abilites is interwoven into the gameplay and story gives this game quite a refreshing flavor.

id more compare this to the witcher rather than oblivion, or rather the gothic series (piranha bytes was the same developer anyways)

The first house has an upstairs  :icon_scratch: lol

Yeah that chest really needs to be opened eh, kept getting messed up by the stupid wolves when heading to the ruin.

I still am shocked at playing this game, it aint for everyone but maybe just maybe I've found another genre that I like  :sassy:

The game is kewl and I can't wait to get outta the rags and start getting real eq/magic etc  :yay:

Lol @ Rage

nah Risen is very very similar to Gothic 3, some people actually calling it Gothic 4. and the type of gameplay is more similar to Witcher than to Obilvion. Hope that clears things up for u.

nah Witcher was epic, nitpicking aside id have to say Witcher was better cause it has the balance of gameplay and polish and gorgeous visuals with the requisite depth.

so witcher does own Risen, but Risen is decent in its own right.

nah Witcher was epic, that in a class by itself, i was slightly dissapointed by the weak endboss but everything leading up to it excellent imo.
Serious? I got that with my graphics card and never really played past the first scene... is it REALLY worth a second look?

The Witcher is one of the most amazing RPGs i've ever played. seriously, if you have that game and haven't played it, you're really, really missing out. i didn't like it at first either, but after hearing all the hype online over it, I gave it a second try, and fell in love. ill get it Risen too. looks interesting. is your copy legit? i was waiting for an official release before acquiring. clone games scare me
