I using Win 8 on laptop for some months, and it's powering my new beast machine also. No issues atal.
For the men who paying for it, the upgrade price is so low to get access to all the new win 8 features. And i talking bout  d non-metro advantages win 8 brings. (Storage Spaces being a noteable one that im using right now.)

Then you also get access to all the metro apps, i use Feed Reader all the time.

All in all, windows 8 is everything windows 7 is an more. For d price, why not? Not like going to windows 8 means loosing anything. You can only gain.

The old one wasnt.

Also, how did you get it for that price?

@ netizen, how do you mean officially launched on page 8?

Yeah I trying to take advantage of that upgrade... but sadly i've to find my old XP original install with key XD

@Messiaah I looking at the Acer W510 (yes its a cheaper mid point to the pro). It should fit into my budget and offer me a little extra compared to RT... or who knows I may bite the bullet and add the extra 200USD for the W700... not sure yet... the deciding factor will be the hands on. And just read this which re-iterates your resounding remarks:

^^ Nice.

And the clovertrail chipset caught my eye. becuase it gives the batterylife and always on nature of ARM chips, but able to run x86 apps also. I'm really interested in how it performs. So be sure to post your findings.

The old one wasnt.

Dunno, have not received the email from MS yet, with the product key. Think you need media center for DVD playback.

Also, how did you get it for that price?

Had bought a Win 7 laptop recently, just did not apply the upgrade to that machine.

Ah, that is a sweet deal.

$14.99 for a blazin' fast OS.

Can't go wrong with that.

Also @ W1ntry, you do not need your original XP key to take advantage of the upgrade price.

You can upgrade any old Windows install with it. It will legitimize the machine. Regardless of the license situation of the current OS.

Limit of 5 copies though. Microsoft is making it bloody easy for people to get their PCs on Windows 8 legitimately.

hahaha, yeah it is epic.

Not a new development though. Was the same with Windows 7

You could install any Windows OS and then promptly install a legitimate Windows 7 Upgrade edition and it would activate and be fully licensed for your use.

That would allow savvy Tech buyers to save some good $$ on the retail price of the full edition of Windows 7.

I think the upgrade edition was like US$99 vs $170 for the full. So you were saving US$70.00

Not bad at all.

Still....its nothing compared to the ridiculously cheap price Windows 8 is going for. They are practically giving this OS away.

I wonder why???

Is it that Ubuntu has become a threat?? Or is Mac attacking the PC space hard core nowadays?

I bought two copies just because its so cheap. I installed one on my laptop but I'm not going to install Windows 8 on my main desktop until a need arises.

Also anyone get java 64bit to work in Windows 8? I can only get the 32bit version to run

To get the $15 price all you have to do is install any version of windows and run the upgrade assistant? Are there any other steps?

If you upgrade over a 32bit OS you will get a 32bit version of Windows 8, using the online version. To get 64bit you need the DVD version.

Apparently there is a loophole that lets anyone in on the $15 upgrade.

Wow, is that loophole for real???

I mean, US$39.99 was already an insane price.

If this is true, that means the whole world can get Windows 8 for $14.99?

Microsoft can't be so mad. Has anyone tested this?

*edit*

Tried this myself and to get the $14.99 price you have to provide a recently purchased Windows 7 product key in addition to the make and model of the computer.

So they plugged this loophole pretty quickly, lol

Well I just got through with the 14.99 , never asked me for key. The problem is I tried it again and its say I dont meet the criteria. However it seems you cant do it from the same machine twice.
