Yes it was. Its all about wireless n routers, features and what makes them the best. No need for a separate topic.

EDIT: and if any one has experience with slingbox in trinidad with flow analog...

never heard of it before in my life

Sling Box
SIT BACK AND ENJOY
Watch your favorite shows in crisp SD quality over the Internet via your desktop, Mac, laptop, or mobile phone—from anywhere, anytime.

hmm, I find that to be a pretty bold claim.

just read about it here: http://www.slingbox.com/go/slingbox-solo

Not big on TV myself but I can see bandwidth availability playing serious games with a device like this.

well i end up buying it...but i think i'll run in to some quality problems for going cheap...i bought the slingbox solo which does not have coaxial inputs and i still have analog cable....so either i get a sling supported universal cable box , a demodulator or pass the signal through a vcr all of which would degrade quality some how..ohh well

i'm not using it to stream tv across the internet .. just across my home network

i also bought the new WD Live Tv and D-Link 2208 switch

EDIT: ohh and found out that the analog cable box is supported...

This one too it has a lot of good reviews on newegg and amazon, something that a lot of them dont boast...What to do.

The Asus is less than $100 on Amazon too, but what you think about the other one? The SMC. Im not sure why Amazon has it for a whole $40 us more though.

Still, I think I will pull the trigger on the Asus today unless someone can give me a reason why I shouldnt.

Ok, so I pulled the trigger on the Asus mainly because off its DD-WRT and Tomato support and two dLink gigabit switches to finally upgrade the home network to gigabit.

That Asus lookin good.

Can't believe gigabit switches get so cheap now yes.

Been on giga for a while though, thanks to 4 blazing gigabit ports integrated on my dlink wireless router.

Power to the people

make sure you take a read on their forums about the proper build... their router database seems to be possessed so I don't use it...

Think the last stable build was 13525 or something like that...

First off, let me see here and now that a good router is one of the most difficult components to choose. I had some specific requirements which were as follows...

1) Stable wireless signal, ie not dropping all the time, also decent range and good throughput.

2) At least 4 gigabit ports for switching.

3) Dual band simultaneous

4) DD-WRT support.

5) NOT be a linksys.

6) $100us or less

Honestly, I went into this thing looking for a dual band router, specifically a simultaneous dual band router. All of them though apparently suffered from poor 5ghz range, throughput or some shortcoming or the other. I looked around and found a whopping total of 1 device I have that uses a dual band wireless card. So really, whats the advantage of dual band if the 5ghz is weak and slow. What do we do with the weak and slow? Shoot it. So I shot the 5ghz in the head most humanely.

From there, my choice became clear. I have been playing with this asus for a few days now with DD-WRT and its great. So far I just managed to get a solid, stable 150Mbps on the laptops. While that will be used primarily for N connections on channel 6, I will setup my Linksys WRT160n to be a G access point/visitor access, put it on channel 1 and still have an extra channel to play with.

hahahha @ shoot the weak and slow

more lol @ requirement #5

Amen to that.

What are the practical advantages to DD-WRT for you awesome?

I miss the uberness of winroute but I hesitate to re-implement the bess firewall for fear that some games won't play nice with double natting. (Namely being a host in games like street fighter on the PS3)

So far, I like the bandwidth monitoring and access restrictions, (though I have not gotten it up and running properly yet). Blocking all non well known ports, saying bye bye to torrents while gaming without disconnecting normal file access, also possibly 80 and 443 so no web access either if you have youtubers on your network.

Also there are built in options for blocking certain websites, configuring access times, I mean there are so many features to choose from. Things that I dont even know what to do with.
