creativity and drama in the past? u want to know? The Abyss, Terminator, Titanic. Original takes on classic sci/fi ideas, while Titanic was a better telling of the titanic tale than any other movie b4 it(historical accuracy aside). And I dont mean to hate, I just cant get my head around wat was ultimately a very average, very shiny movie thats getting praise beyond its quality.
And the whole point of the movie was very glaring and obvious. Does that make a movie bad? no, but I think more mature and enduring writing should have been put into a movie that was no better than Micheal Bay's standard story telling ability.

sort of like how ID is known for creating high tech FPS game engines but not very good FPS storyline games?

Have you even seen the mess called Transformers 2? Avatar's Pocahontas plot is like complex philosophy compared to that noob's so called "story telling ability"

You think if Michael Bay made this movie instead of Cameron, it would have been the same? IMO, it's how the story was told that counts. That's what made Avatar a great movie for me. I'm also a huge Cameron fan (Titanic is my 2nd fav movie of all time) and I know it wasn't his best. Still, it was great. The guy's still got it.

Hey remember the first Far Cry? Technically outstanding with a simple ass plot and it's still one of the best FPS ever =]

I agree @ "it's how the story is told"

This is basically Pocahontas and John Smith all over again but having seen this in 3D, I am AMAZED. It was EPIC, BEAUTIFUL... OMG. I actually saw Disney's "Pocahontas" and honestly, the "colours of the wind" didn't mean SH!T to me during this movie.

It was a visual experience I'd LOVE to repeat. The depression is taking it kinda far but I can understand how ppl would find this beautiful beyond rational thought. Now I'm spoilt. I want GAMING in 3D now, lol.

Well, I'm probably the last person on GATT to see the movie. It was mad. Wasn't the "be-all-end-all" of sci-fi films but it was still pretty good.

It was the first movie I've ever seen in 3D and it was amazing. have meh thinkin bout saving up for a 120hz TV or monitor now.

Do they sell 3D classes anywhere in T&T? Like the ones in CC8?

Look at these International Box Office numbers:

Avatar - $1.288 billion
Titanic - $1.242 billion

Know what that means?

lol, technology trumps story?

on the flip side, I'm glad a scifi action movie is top dog in the world. May help the genre see a resurgence. Go scifi go.

after having read the posts, i'm glad to see i wasnt the only one who thought this movie was overrated...its sad to come to a realisation that movie are generally so poor/cliched that all you have to do is bathe it in special effects and ppl will go insane. (altho this one was fairly well done admitedly)

all that said tho the 3d was a real nice touch tho was nice, eh see 3d since i was a kid, but hear this i find it coulda have more 3d. it started of hot with it but in d action scens toward the end i find they had more license to bathe it, but they didnt.

hear this tho? nobody sayin anything bout the racist undertones...they continuing to brainwash us and we not noticing
