Rotational hdd's, yes, ssd's, no. No motors to burn, no heads to crash. Even taking into account electrical degradation that comes with a used ssd, I am very confident that it will have years of life remaining, at least enough than when im ready to upgrade to a higher capacity, a NEW drive will have a cost per gb ratio similar to what they offering in these refurbs.

I think I'd rather go with the Momentus drive, but still, a refurbished SSD isn't that bad of a deal...for the very reasons that Capt Awesome stated.

Those drives can't be more than 6 months old.

Phoenix thats a good point, a lot of issues users experienced were due to faulty firmware.

It is my understanding that they have released new firmware that adds TRIM support and fixes a lot of those issues.

I think its worth noting, though that the drives they will be selling are based on the Barefoot Idilinx controller which is 2009's model as opposed to the newer and slightly faster Sandforce controller for this year. From reviews I read too they perform on par with the x25m's anyway.

Still, a ssd for that price is a steal of a deal.

I paid $119 each for two of those exact drives just 2.5 months ago. Those drives are an absolute steal of a deal.

if i had seen this earlier, i would have been able to get 3 drives instead of the 2 Western Digital. i already own 2 of these Seagate drives, and they work perfectly. only use them for backups though. they were $100us up to yesterday.
