Allyuh read the articles right? All 460's not made equal. The 1gig version (which wont be out for another couple weeks) has 25% more rastas working for it than the 768mb version making it faster.

Still, @ $230us and performance on par with the 5850, i'd say nvidia win HANDS DOWN this rounds (granted it take them a FULL 6 months to do it) I waiting to see availability but this is definitely a good sign that the  fires of WAR IS COMING BACK IN FULL FORCE. boom.

Fermi is probably better for a long term purchase , more tessalation power , but i think ATI's next gen cards due out later this year will Pwn nvidia bad. All they have to do is be 30%-40% faster than their currant offerings for the same price range , which shouldnt be hard at all.

GTX460 / 480M are sweet cards but they are still extremely late to the game .  Fermi is a better architecture all round but its to little too late.

even if it's just one card... some semblance of competition is back :)...

2 x gtx460's look very very viable...

Simply put at that price point, its definitely not too late. If ATI comes with some aggressive pricing they could definitely rain on nv's parade. And I dont see why they cant.

Still, I believe AMD is still ahead of the curve as they have had 7 or 8 months so far to work on a monster. They have now refined their 40nm process and are probably already doing a 32 or 28nm which will surface October/November [/nostradamus]

Exciting times ahead for pc gaming and hardware and im glad to be in the middle of it.

Indeed...Christmas can't come fast enough.

Whatever is the best at the 300 US price point...ah takin two.
Who knows...maybe I'll do a 'bess deal' on my 5850s?  :happy0203:

Call me 'old fashioned' but I no longer consider it cost effective to invest in them dual-GPU monsters.  Resale on them biatches can be a real pain.
You just can't get back what you really want.  It really hurts when you have to lose about a thousand dollars in resale value becuase of the newer products' prices.

I learned my lesson with the 4870X2.  Never me again.

After running i7 for nearly 1.5 years, I still smile when people tell me they want to upgrade to 920 or 930. I always like having aa system that still a bit ahead of the curve a year after putting it together and upgrading before it even starts to feel 'slow'

Early adopting ftw!!

I used to be like that but as I've gotten older, having the latest/greatest pc hardware doh really feel like a must have anymore. I guess it's cuz I don't play on pc as much as before.

We'll wait to see what DAAMIT's reaction is in terms of price before we call it. Honestly atm as it, with a 200USD price tag, it looks good, but if the 5830 drops to the same or the 5850 drops to 220USD, which would you honestly buy? The 465 (the 460 bigger bro) can't compete well against the 5830 or 5850, how does a part that will perform even lower win? thats just my thoughts on the matter.

the 460 beating the 5850 in plenty of the benches... and the 5830 is a waste of time so.. i would prolly still go with the 460's...

but we'll see how ati plays it

Yea the 460 (1gb) looks superior (though by a small amount) to the 5850 but what puts it over the top is the price. If they were available 6 months ago I would have added to cart with haste.

What IS the price? all i've seen so far is the GTX460 768MB card for 200USD on newegg. What is the price of the 1GB? i'm guessing 220-275. since there's always been a premium on memory size. You remember the 8800GT vs. the 8800GTS?

The MSRP of the 1gig is @220. Even if it does go up by $30, it will still be cheaper and more powerful than the hd5850.

Like I said, im thrilled nvidia seems to be getting back on track. That means more power cheaper come upgrade time this Christmas.
