In case you're not jumping out of your skin yet, the IBN research was immediately sent to Angewandte Chemie, published by the German Chemical Society, and the prestigious journal called it a "hot paper," and "very important."

In layman's terms, what IBN researchers discovered is that if they used  N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs), an organic catalyst, as opposed to heavy metal catalysts, carbon dioxide is activated, a state which it must be in to transform it into something useful.

Then, hydrosilane, a combination of silica and hydrogen, is added to the NHC-activated carbon dioxide and, by adding water into the solution through hydrolysis, the carbon dioxide transforms into methanol.

but our dependency on hydro carbons isnt as big a deal as they make it out to be.

Our dependence on mass consumption is our biggest issue.
since water vapour is actually the number one green house gas
and the vast increase in water vapour is as a result of our massive production and manufacturing dependencies.

BUtttt with a push to consume less, should result in less production or more efficient production, less use of hydro carbons, less production of water vapour

And what business model promotes use less? business and the business of making money drives the world. I am an engineer but the little I know of business models and theories is that you're forever trying to grow, expand, increase... which inherently requires... you guessed it, MORE resources... an infinite model on a finite source.. but with this "green" push, and the atleast on the surface attempt to utilise cleaner fuel sources, more efficient machines and consume less. they have to make their money some how i agree
so what will the answer be?? push green green green green
convert enough of the market into a so called green one, like maybe upwards of 75%
and then start charging arm and leg for the cleaner more efficient socially acceptable no longer alternative, newly mainstay products

quite a good scheme if you think about it
first the oil companies fought long and hard to disprove that hydrocarbons were bad
and either by design or bad luck they lost that one.

so now what their future lies in, is clean alternatives, so they go with the flow, and probably even pay off scientist to continue telling the world that CO2 is the reason for global warming (which again, its not)
and they quietly make moves to shift their business models from oil and gas , to gas to liquid and "clean" fuels, which they would still hold the monopolies on.

Stop widespread production distribution and sale of petrol fuel, so they force people to move to the new green crap
then they again can continue an infinite model on a finitre resource.

Going "Green" was inevitable, and I see the effects already, as more people are out of work, changing industries and careers is logical and there will be substantial growth in "green" technology.

My boss just started another company to compliment the current one. We will be getting involved in green roofing projects in the city. Something that legislators are already drafting in New York and which they hope will take effect come 2013 that all the commercial / residential buildings in the city will have to conform to a "green" way of doing business. Green Roofs, Solar Power technology, etc.

Working with Obama's alternative energy plan, subsidies from the Federal Gov't will boost growth in the industry and generate jobs and help the environment at the same time.

actually if the majority of the world uses H2O electric energy and solar energy then the production of such materials may not be necessary  but knowing what man is he'd say " naw that's too slow, Nuclear energy is faster." solar energy is one of the most green technologies right now and if properly harnessed in the dry time to come it will prove to be probably what saves us all lol... Geothermal energy is another 'green' energy source but is less widely used but just as powerful

'They did, and you know what happened? the WORLD went into recession. The largest consumer in the world IS the US. If they stop buying alot of countries economies will suffer. We're seeing it all now.
