I didn't say I wasn't impressed....I said it was alright.

what would you rate it? out of 10?

And would you say its on par with Rome or Spartacus?

id give it a solid 9.5 out of ten. but I wont compare it to Spartacus. (thats on a next level)

it could more compare to Camelot which its far better than imo.

lol, so what would you give Spartacus then???

because the shows are very similiar.....

if it weren't for the existence of Spartcus, I would have given it a higher rating....but when compared....well, you said it yourself.....another level.

I also was sorta 7ish/10 with the first episode of Game of Thrones.
It is a well damn good television production but it just felt sorta lacking for a series debut.
It does set itself nicely for the future though.
Will take in the 2nd episode sometime soon.

Yea I've also been seeing people saying that it is very faithful to the source.
I imagine if I read the book series I'd have LOVED the premiere.
Anyway I am hooked though and will watch the season.

Not sure if this was posted, but it was confirmed (for a while now) that Stargate: Universe
has been cancelled only after two seasons. :(

From the time SyFy (ugh) moved that show from Fridays to Tuesdays, I knew the writing was already on the wall for this show.  Couple that with a (kinda) slow 1st season, and a significant SG1/SGA fanboy backlash, and you can see where things were heading.

I really came to love this show, and it's probably the ONLY one that I've watched with weekly regularity for the past 2 years...easily my favourite current show.

A small rant about TV in general these days:    (OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE/SLURS ahead...you have been warned)

WHAT THE F@#K really goin on!!?

I mean come on...have all demographics really gotten that dumb over the last 10 years?
How is it that we now have all this stupid 'reality' crap that passes for TV these days?
How can shows that are so well written, with such deep character development, and story progression get canned in favour of some new bulls**t 'reality' show.  SGU is just one, but I'm sure many of you can point out examples of shows that have been gutted in their prime.

It seems like science-fiction on TV is a cussword now.  I can't even rely on SyFy (the very mention of that word sickens me) for 'good' sci-fi.  Will we see an more of those groundbreaking anime movies that endeared the original Sci-Fi channel to some of us all those years ago?  Ha...don't hold your breath waiting.  The accountants now rule the airwaves, so I can understand now why 'SyFy' now has the totally idiotic WWE Smackdown on Friday nights.  :(

Has the viewing public really gotten that dumb?

When I take a long hard look at 'TV' as it stands today, does it really make sense paying for cable?
To watch dancing with the f@#cking stars?  Or Tyra Banks with a setta skinny, ugly-ass white girls and fa****s talking sh*t about who pose was better? Seriously!!?

...and what in the name of DICE (aka 'all that is holy' :laughing7:) happened to the once great
channel known as TLC, 'The Learning Channel'?  Have the fa****s overrun that channel as well?
Systems United Navy - Accipiens ad Astra

preach pastor Arc preach. Thought i was the only one who noticed this steady change in programming quality. so many really promising shows have been canceled before they had a chance to become something spectacular i.e Terriers on FX i really like that show, it was witty, had really good plot twist(which is really hard to find), it wasn't drawn out just to make extra episodes.

I don't really know about TLC it lost it way a long time ago, guess they realised people don't watch tv to learn anything. I for one do  especially Discovery and NatGeo.

wow, what a rant.

Like you haven't been following this thread or what Arc?

Some big series making the cut.

Granted, they may not be sci fi for the most part....but they sure as hell ain't Oprah/Tyra/Reality TV. Heavy testosterone iwmc.

Let me name a few:

LOST
Spartacus Blood and Sand
Spartacus Gods of The Arena
Game of Thrones
Camelot
Merlin
Primeval (sci fi)
Hawaii Five 0 (A lot of high tech)
Prison Break
Supernatural
Burn Notice
Fringe (sci fi)
Heroes (sci fi, meh after season 1)
Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles (sci fi, meh after season 1)
Dexter
Misfits (sci fi)
Nikita

and let us not forget the sci fi to end all sci fi's....Battlestar Galactica (a bit old, but honorable mention)

I'm sure there are a few others worth mentioning.

If there is any consolation, a lot of those reality shows get canned and knocked off the air waves as well.

Way I see it, scifi always struggled to gain mass appeal. The original star trek was nearly cancelled after the first season, kept on air by one executive fighting the case hard.....ran into trouble again at the end of the second season, kept on air by fans lobbying hard.....neither could save it from the axe at the end of the third season. Off the air idmc.

And this was back in 1966-1968

The awesome Firefly got level lixxx and didn't make the cut.

Likewise for Surface.

Seems we just don't have the numbers to sustain decent scifi on the airwaves. You got to be real on top of your game to make it. B quality productions need not apply.

As a side note, you think two seasons isn't enough?

Personally, I'm wary of these "dragging on forever" series. I rather a faster paced story arc than a young and restless/knots landing snore fest. Once they have their minds set on a 6 - 8 seasons, more often than not, a ton of filler is going to make its way unto your screen.

In the anime world, give me a 26 - 50 episode complete series over a 300+ episode, never ending monster like dbz

While syfy currently runs an anime block for 2 hrs on Tuesdays it can't beat what they used to show many moons ago when the channel was still called SCI-FI.

Sci-Fi > Syfy

The Cape & No Ordinary Family also in the cancel bin.

The Event about to join them (with some pretty dismal ratings at present)

How many more must die? lol

V (Visitors) cancelled today as well.
Very pissed.

Human Target was so soo good. V had a REL good season 2.
The Event started off very slow and I was about to give up on it.
It redeemed itself episode 10 and up and I'm loving it alot.

If that gets cancelled too... big steups @ TV.

V had some glaring inconsistencies, it was a step up, but it had some horribad acting as well.

had potential though.

event, started good, went sour, then got good again, but these days yuh hatta come real good, or offer something teennyboopers cant get enough of (romance and vampires like vampire diaries)
vampire diaries actually shocked me though, show is pretty brutal.

Right now I 'm hooked on the current Dr Who. I got into the series when Syfy had sense and used to air it. Fortunately BBC America airs it on Saturday nights and our good friends on the internet post it online shortly after airtime.  :happy0203:
