Played this....finished this..

As a developer I watch games differently...my 2 cents. I don't watch games like gamers do, all you guys know is the end game, not what goes into making it..

- Great presentation. Awesome story that really pulls you in. (hella dark too). Nice story....stellar acting!
- Repetitive. If you aren't pulled into this story you are going to get bored quick....real quick. "Boss" fights are very half assed, which isn't terrible since boss fights are so difficult to do nowadays people just leave them out.
- teri-f(ckin-bad objective system. Intensity vs. waypoint solving is a bad combination. This is design 101, and I can tell that if this was left out they had some god awful bugs they had to deal with.
- buggy.....as......shit. Looking at the credits after the game, with THAT many people on the project you are bound to find issues...and this shows. Encountered 3 progression breaks in the game. Cover system has serious issues.
- Multiplayer...is....boring.....as.......shit. Slow, lazy, dead. Its a flavor of the month shooter. People play it for a little...then go back to what they were playing

All in all. For someone looking for a good single player experience, this is nice. VERY nice. For someone following Max Payne and hearing about it for a few years, this game probably didn't start production until a year ago..if that. Simple drill down...reuse of enemy skins on miniboss fights, simple animation and mechanic remaps stunted by hairline triggerpoints.

The designers did a GREAT job, the tech designers f*cking need to be fired.

Played it NON STOP on Friday night. Finished it 5am (was very much drawn into the game), traded it in Saturday. Im done. Was worth my money...but I don't care to revisit this game.

Bottom line, expect to hear about layoffs in Rockstar soon. This game, as good as people saying is FAR from hitting its money point. No money, no job...layoffs. done.

OUCH!

was going to pick this up. Steam sale for it then.

I can't tell you how frustrating this is.
I should be much further along in the game as it is, but I keep having to re-attempt certain areas again and again
because I couldn't get into/out of cover quickly or fluidly enough.  It would be a game-breaker were it not for
the compelling nature of the story, and the intensity of the bullet flinging. :laughing7:

For action junkies I'd say it's worth a buy.

Still buying this, waited for another Max Payne game for years.

If I remember correctly I think the first 2 had inconsistent spikes in difficulty too.

Strangely, I hardly had any issues with the cover system. The "Surprise!!! *shotgun to face*" parts were my main issue.

Strangely, I hardly had any issues with the cover system. The "Surprise!!! *shotgun to face*" parts were my main issue.

The cover system in this game is probably as basic as it can get, no ME3 dive and roll into cover or anything like that. Moving in any direction while behind cover somehow makes you take damage...maybe this really is a bug? At first It took me maybe till chapter 3 to properly figure out the cover system, but once you get it works just fine. Other than that, I can't say I had any problems.

I'm  now playing through on Hardcore difficulty and it's still fairly easy...the parts where you get swamped by enemies are a bit tricky but a bit of strategy is all you need, the AI still isn't too smart and weapon damage seems almost the same.

It's worth picking up for any Max Payne fan. The story and gameplay didn't disappoint. The multiplayer is a neat little add-on that will give you a couple hours of entertainment as well. Some of those perks are really amusing to see in action.  :happy0203:

BTW, good approach R* though I can't 100% say that I've come across any.

this game was one of my very few must gets for this year. wondering if this going on sale in a couple months, with the usual steam insanity.

I'd guess the cover system is close to GTA's or a little more tweaked, right? Getting it sometime this month.

Yep, it's more or less the same, same functionality and controls.

After doing some research, and checking out reviews, vids etc, decided to take a dabble and buy it on steam.

So far this game is extremely immersive, production value is stellar, voice acting is excellent, action is more satisfying and fulfilling than most action games Ive played in recent times. (Uncharted 3 Im looking at you)  and that score...gives me chills. (cant even remember the last time a game's music helped to draw me in so much)

Haven't beaten it yet, but if it maintains my interest, to this degree, this is a GOTY contender for sure.

Even the multiplayer is A LOT more fun than I thought it would be, Gang Wars in particular, is a mode I keep on coming back to, love how they weave a narrative into the flow of the multiplayer, reminds me of Operations mode in Killzone 3 Multiplayer.

Very nice.

Should have my copy by either Friday or Saturday so once I beat the campaign those of us on the pc side could have some fun in the multiplayer.

Got my hands on it, finally.

Game is insane. Sucks you in like you wouldn't believe, played till chapter 4 but the action so far has been amazing.

I see what you guys say about the easy deaths and spikes in difficulty but I take it as a challenge. Cannot wait to dive back in. GOTY contender for sure.

Dunno if u guys realized it already, but there's a very subtle static effect onscreen whenever an enemy is hiding around a corner. embarrassing to say it took till the last hour or 2 in the game to notice that.

^^ yea like in chapter 3 in the stadium. Music finished, walked through the door and what did I see another b!tch busting through the side door with a shotty. Max actually said "Oh shit" and I was like my sentiments exactly lol.

And why is it always the guy with a high powered weapon that sneaks up on you.  The realism of the action is actually kinda frightening. My heart rate goes up anytime I enter a new area.

Multi might hada wait till I done campaign.
