Help with xbox live

hello everyone,
                   need  some help here. A few days ago i signed up for xbox live, and I signed up with no problem, However I experienced slow download speeds on my DSL connection which was going on for few days.
I contacted TSTT helpdesk and they guided me thru the Paradyne DSL router and made changes to the settings.  Now I cant log on to XBOX live!!
I ran the xbox network troubleshooter and it said I have a MTU issue, my router  setting should be set at auto and must be set over 1394
I accessed my LINKSYS router(model " WRT54G v8") and saw how my MTU settings were preset to Auto and had a value of 1500.
Also the XBOX live page said i should update my routers firmware(which I later did)
I feel the adjusting of the paradyne modem  did something.
Does anyone know   what are the proper settings for live to work?

I am stumped, any advice on what I should do?

Did you try resetting your Modem to its default settings?

Some Xbox Live port-forwarding may be in order, but I get the feeling that solution is beyond your skill-set.

As Redlum suggested...reset your modem to default 1st, because that is what you changed.

See if it connects then.

If not, reset your router as well.
If it then connects, then it's some router setting turned on (or off)  that is is interfering with the console's ability to 'see' your internet connections.

Once that is sorted, we can go from there...

I'm sure there's rule in the TOS about that...but who gives a fuck about rules, right?
