Call Of Duty : inside the engine
« on: December 13, 2003, 05:44:48 PM »
COD uses D3D so Radeons have the advantage... the readme recommends Extra texture settings for 256mb cards.. but my radeon 128mb hasn't dropped below 20 FPS with it on yet..

D3D means pixel shaded water.... which means you'll be staring at the pretty water and dying alot.. COD is a RAM whore... it won't run smooth unless i control-alt-delete  60% of my processes [ 256mb PC133] .
The physics engine is alot better than MOHAAs... even though KARMA and HAVOC are missing.... the games textures are not all bump mapped to hell [ ala HALO , DOOM 3 ] so they do not lag... but don't look all that great either .

Average FPS on PIII 850mhz , 256mb PC133 , Radeon 8500 128mb.
Settings : Textures all at Extra , res: 800x600x32 dynamic lighted world
Looking at Floor : 140 FPS
   2-3 men shooting : 75-80 fps
   15-20 men shooting : 40-50 fps
20 men shooting while huge explosions light the area : 20-25 fps

Do you think COD will run on a system with these specs.
2Ghz processor
512 ddr RAM
Nvidia Geforce 4MX 440 video card

So for best performance a raideon would be required...but would it run tolerable with geforce 4?

for optimum performance these days
get a radeon 9600 pro 128mb
though the price is steep

radeons are alot better for D3D

it will run quite well on a geforce 4 mx, on a TI it should be able to max out . make sure you have latest drivers for it .

but i wouldnt bother about upgradin upgradin upgradin all the time
i would rather save up some money
and buy a product from the U.S.
there is this system called the falcon frag box
it is said to be the best system for gaming
all you really have to do is upgrade the video card if you want superb performance
all the other componenets are said to be up to date and up to speed

COD also uses opengl so those nvidia card could take advantage than those ati card, thus less cpu compumsation(Meaning MORE FPS!!) and the graphics smoother, but probably not better than D3DX9...Man do u research properly, good grief...

Foo?What the hell that suppose to mean?Hoss u really sounded very retarded there!
but anyhow the reason i quoted that because you seem to bring down anything made by
nvidia..Come on for christ sake, let and give nvidia a chance. They still own opengl
and they card aren't that bad, have u seen the any competitor in the video card market?
Guess Not..Cool!!Man u focusing as though D3D is the master of all graphics..When u going
to focus on the benefit of Opengl. Please don't be offend by my comments,if you're just prove
to me you all 12yrs old kid behind a computer, that has nothing to do in life...

I LOVE OGL ! OGL ENABLES ME TO KEEP HI FPS IN ANY GAME REGARDLESS OF MY P3 !. I LOVED NVIDIA JUST LIKE YOU DID! THERE WAS A BEAUTY IN EVERY FRAME THAT WAS BLEEDING QUALITY!

THAT WAS 2 YEARS  AGO! THEY NOW SUCK! SINCE THE 9700 NVIDIA HAS BEEN MAKING LAME CHIPS AND CARDS

YES THE 5950 IS THE FASTEST, BUT THE 5200 AND ALL THE CHEAP CARDS ARE SLOWER THAN BUILT IN MOTHERBOARD 3D!

 BUT COD USES D3D!

the physics, polygon limits, performance of the quake engine is inherited in COD... but they went around OGL 1.4s limitations by using DX9 , OGL 2.0 [ doom III] promises pixel shaders but is still unavailable

THEY DID NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT IT USING OGL! so nitrate... before you want to tell anyone anything about a game..... play it first......
