COMPUTEX THIS YEAR has been all about the mini-processors, with Intel's Atom stealing most of the spotlight. But there have been plenty of other tiny bits of central processing silicon on display, possibly the most notable being Via's latest low-power play, the Nano (formerly codenamed Isiah. Why? Because 'is one eye's 'igher than the other. Obviously).

Atom is designed for small internet-centric devices, but Via may well have bigger fish to fry. The company demonstrated Nano, clocked at 1.8GHz, running Crysis alongisde an 8600 GT - and with the game going at a fair old whack under Vista, no less.

Whilst Intel is busy trying to grow into low-power markets, is Via getting ready to transition into desktop again?

Not the best performance of Crysis, but at 1.8GHz with barely 5W power, that's pretty damn impressive to me!

Indeed, considering Crysis system requirements.  That it even runs is a credit to the manu.
