Didnt I hear those things gonna START at like $600us or so?

Unless a man win the lotto, is i5, i7 or maybe a gulftown quad core ft(sensible)w.

*Edit*

Make that $999 for the first released part.

Who buys extreme anyway? There'll certainly be a "normal" sku to choose from.

Why would there be a 'normal' sku? Quad core is still underutilized in the desktop space. Only the lucrative server and workstation markets really use the mutlicore power and having a mass produced Hex is just not sensible. You lose money, you canabalise your higher margin market spaces and quiet frankly the Quads (and HT) are currently MORE than enough to suit the market for at least the next 2 years. This is a HALO product to maintain a comercial market mindshare as how could Intel NOT produce a HEX or better core CPU when AMD is roadmapped to realse in Q2 of 10.

If they leave it as a EE, they get all the press, get HIGH margins on markups and still lead the pack.

Who ever said we needed more cores? There's something special about firing up your monster, opening task manager and looking at 12 muhfuggin cores staring u down.

You KNOW a desktop part is going to come out, its just a matter of how long after the extreme parts and how much they'll cost.

Yeah, when 6-8 cores is the norm.. 32nm so i'd say normal desktop Hex in 2 years

So Intel finally brings tha noise with the new Core i3/i5 Clarkdale CPUs today.

Of course, my review hosses at TechReport wasted no time in evaluating them.

Core 2 is dread, laptops will have better battery life (hopefully), otherwise nothing spectacular and for the mid range gamer, Quad is still the best way forward, so fiah for i3 and I still rather 4 physical cores than 2 with HT.

For that kinna cash, they were robbing people by NOT putting something like that in, considering that one of those coolers only cost about 5% of the cost of the cpu itself.

actually thats not true, the cooler costs about $20, packaging about $5. From what I am learning about silicon fab the core is probably $5 to make and the rest maybe another $15, the cooler is actually (cost to manufacture ) the most expensive bit material wise. Now Intel does have to recoup the R&D costs and then make enough profit to both do more R&D plus start another 22nm process, thats the expensive part.

So skimping on the cooler actually makes more profit than any other part but it's past time intel started using a cooler that can actually cool something :XD
