Use Cell Phone As Tv Remote?
« on: May 18, 2008, 01:27:26 AM »
Hey anybudy know of a program that could allow you to use the Infrared Port in your phone to turn on/off your tv?
I know for those with symbian they suppose to have it for smart phones and ""ahem CptAwesome"" N82s.
But I wanted one for my w810i so therefore in Java.
Any info is appreciated on whether it exists or is even possible.
Laters looking forward for responses.

I looked into this as well but found that the IRda ports on java phones doesnt have much range (about 30cm) and because of this there are no applications that would allow you to do this. The n82 doesnt have IRda so I wont be able to try it.

Check it out on google to be sure.

there is an application on my PPC that allows remote control of many devices; it even has a learning ability which can clone signals. i can control my MCE PC, TV, DVD Player. but i agree with aweseome, even just beaming files between phones, they really have to be very close together to maiintain a connection. good idea tho.

there is an application for symbian phones, it is used to control multiple devices, it is call Psiloc IR Remote, i've used it on my phone, but no luck, the trick is to find a proper signal code, i have all the signal codes for all the devices that the program supports, apparently, i don't have any compatible device home to test it on.. #!@$!@#... it can control, your AC, Home Stereo, DVD player, Television, and others i believe, but i gave up on it... sorry dey captain, the n82 would have come in handy with the IR port, i would have given u the program to try..

Frankly the lack of it is not a problem for me. I mean I dont have many things to remote control anyway, just ac, radio and those things have their own remotes. If I want one remote to rule them all, then there's always one of those universal remotes. I know there is a certain "cool factor" with using the phone to control stuff but meh, im not loosing any sleep over that in light of the multitude of other features on the phone at my disposal.
