In Search For a gaming mouse
« on: May 13, 2008, 09:42:56 AM »
hello fellow GATTers.. i'm in search for a gaming mouse, after aquiring my 8800gt and games moving sickahrishlously(<< new word ) fast, my ye old benq mouse just nuh mekkin it. i have three mice in mind

*just using newegg to provide pics and specs*

First: The logitech almighty G9 mouse, 3000dpi, custom weights, changeable covers for comfort selection etc... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104079

Second: The logitech G5 mouse, 2000dpi, pretty much like the G9 without the changeable covers http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104076

Third: The Razer Death Adder, 1800dpi, 3g infrared sensor, no customs weights tho...  http://www.techwarelabs.com/reviews/peripherals/razerdeathadder/

amazing, the logitech G5 is the cheapest of all, but i would like to know others' opinions on something before i purchase, all part of research. i'm welcome to any suggestions...

My current gaming mouse is the Razer Diamondback, works like a dream, plus the on-the-fly sensitivity adjustment can really play a good part when it comes to trying to determine sensitivity for a particular game....

Plus, as a leftie, those 'ergonomic' designs don't really work for me, so I typically go for mice that can be used ambidextrously..

I used the G5, great mouse but even with all the settings and weight adjustments, I found the MX500 performed better for me in FPS games. Sold it and bought another MX500. We've lived happily ever after since.

Love the name of that Razer. Death Adder iymc.

Not too sure I'd be willing to give up the glove like fit of the MX 500 for the ambidextrous shape of the Death Adder though.

In any event, you're stepping up from a BenQ, so you really can't go wrong here. You've narrowed it down to some great choices.

i use a G7, so im also lookin to change to a wired mice, becuase the flaws of the wireless in the G7 are very noticeable, and occurs just in the wrong times lol. both G5 and g9 are good mice. d G5 will tailor to gamers who use there palms to control the mouse.

i personaly am a finger tip gamer, and the G9 has a grip that is tailored to finger tip gamers, where u control the mouse with your fingertips rather dan whole palm. it allows for ffaster and better control, depending on how u use your mouse.

Hope that information helps determine. since all these mice are good performers, i think it boils down to, which woudl be best for YOU. Ive chosen to go from G7 to G9 becuase i dont like th bluge on the G7, i need to go wired for less lag in mouse, and i naturaly game fingertip style reguardless of the mouse i use. At the same token the razer mice are longer dan your average mouse. so comfort and fit for your hand mite be an issue. never tested one personaly doh.

I second and third the MX500 endorsement. I use it and look at what happens in cod. Philo of all people should be familiar lol.

But its an old model. You probably wont find it at many online retailers. I know they are available from local Radio Shack outlets, at least the Movie Towne one. Not too sure of the price now as I got mine on a special.

You can look to the newer MX510 from online sources. I think the resolution is slightly better? but the design is basically the same. Get that mouse, you wont be sorry.

ok i checked out the mx510, and well as it seems to be a good mouse, the g5 pwns it still, my hands are big so i would like to palm my mouse, using my fingers will cause me to feel strain. the razer mouse, yes it is a bit odd in shape, ambidextrous it is, but i'm a righty.. based on price, performance, features, and the one step closer  to popping off captain awesome head, i will go with a logitech g5... , my purchase probably won't be made till thursday, so i'm welcome to more suggestions... i do like to change my mind on something alot, so i may say A today and say X tomorrow.

I use the Logitech G7, and suffer no lag.  I prefer wireless mice anyway.  The G7 'feet' are the best I've seen to date.

interesting point about using the finger tips to game.

I once had a microsoft PS2 mouse that was unusually small. Carried it around with a laptop typically. Had no choice but to use the finger tips for that lil sucker so it wasn't good for marathon gaming sessions.

However, I did notice that the mouse was more accurate and responsive than my other mice of the day for FPS games. Quake 3 particularly. Precisely because you had to move it around with the finger tips instead of the palm.

Not much to look at, lol. The Microsoft Trekker.

Good choice. MX510 looks better though. You've gotta tell us how a mouse with weights work as compared to without. Somehow I feel as though youll be hard pressed to see the difference.

But in any case, I can take my old genius ball mouse from back in 2000 and still pwn you base so, meh.

lmao @ ball mouse.. well que sera sera... there will come a day when the 6 million dollar man empire shall fall, and one shall rise like the Lich King and sit on the Frozen Throne.. lol

the weights thing i would really like, esp since my hands are a bit large, i would like to see how that plays out. Yes the mx510 is shinier,  :awesome:, but the G5 is so fully featured, is like buyin a b14 with ah SR-20 turbo vs. buying ah pretty shiny almera...lol..

The G7 is really good, but for fine precision tracking, like trying to track someone wiht a railgun in quake3, i noticed the cursor will make a small jump from one pixel to another. it can be tested on the desktop, juss as slow as posible move the mouse, and see if the cursor jumps. This flaw made it extremely difficult to pinpoint my headshots :) also jumping and quickly turning to plant a rocket in the exact spot i want it. I attributed this to the fact that the mouse is wireless, any other reason why dis coudl be happening?

and also as ive mentioned, i got used to fingertip gamin, so i think id prefer a mouse geared toward dat. playign quake3 and having to spin aroudn fast, and usin a railgun whiles doging missles, i naturaly developed that style of gamin.

Yeah the fingertip style really pwned in Quake 3. It also helped in some tight split second RTS operations in Starcraft.

Not so much of a big deal with less "frantic" fps games.

exactly right, less "frantic" gamers wont see a big deal, but when u need split second reaction time, its invaluable. whcih is why i recognize the flaw in the G7, becuase of this same type of gaming.

I don't have any of those issues with the G7.  Probably, the mousing surface you used was causing it?
Or maybe it was where you put the receiver?  This mouse has been my primary gaming mouse for the last 2 years,
and I have seen no reason to change it, unless its to buy a new one of course.
