I downloaded that GoW setup file but couldn't run the hamachi fix.

AVG picked up the file as a virus. What's the deal? See attached.

If it's just AVG being paranoid, are there some steps I can manually take to do the same thing this file does?

Yes, AVG is just paranoid, nothing is wrong with the file, juss disable avg, run it to fix yuh gears, den enable back avg.
Its a one time run file. So once you run it, ure good to go. Anytime you are dealing wiht "aquired" games this kinda of threadment from your antivirus is to be expected.

And no, there are no manual instructions you can follow to acheive the same result, you have to use that file.
-------

Aye fellers, wont it be fun in gears 2, if 2 men coudl chainsaw someone at the same time? :D, cause in d swet, when a man down, u and yuh partner would be rushing for d final blow.
plicture 2 chainsaws to a man chess at once }-}

Speaking of which, check out gamespot or ign for a video on gears 2, its for d xbox first, so check there, gears 2 lookin CRAZY.

well I dunno, did a search for autoit worm on google, a lot of results came up. F-Secure, bitdefender, avast, etc....all had entries for it, so I'm a little wary.

Gonna try the below links when I got time to see if they can setup gow for hamachi without setting off AVG's alarm bells.

Antivirus only affects the swet if u using avg :), hence the plotera of recomendations already made, time to move on :)

o and whiles we on the topic, For all those who gears crasnhin on dem, i found that disabling yuh AV helps with stability :S
Some say xfire was crashing there's as well, but weekend when mines was juss crashing ove rand over, i exit msn, and it ran fine for d rest of d swet :S

so things to keep in mind for those expereinceing problems.

All this talk of Gears of War crashing. Are other games crashing on your machines or only Gears of War?

Messiah, I work in IT, it's my job to be paranoid. lol

Love sweat just as much as the other guy, but would prefer a way to get in on the action without taking that risk and having AVG go ballistic. Don't mind doing the extra clicks outlined in those links.

Funny that GoW is so problematic. Reading online, few other games require all this effort to work. Could just be a case of a badly coded game I guess.

Any UT3 Engine game gives problems for me, COD4 Runs fine all bells and whistles on, but im doing some research here on what coudl be cuasing the crash, and aparently there are known issues with nvidia cards and the UT3 engine, more pronounced on SLI rigs like my own.

And microsoft took extra steps to ensure aquired gears cant be used for multiplayer purposes, for instance, gears has a feature where it wont allow you to join a lan game on anything more dan 30 ping. so these fixes are required for gears to by pass some of those anoying features.

And i work in I.T. as well, which is why you shoudl be familiar with soemthing called a False Positive. There are many cases where avg allowed actual harmful viruses to infect client machines, lol. But there are alot of users here that posted different AV dey use, and none of us had this problem with the file, avg is just being paranoid, "Flase Positive". I personaly dont get viruses, only ever got a virus once, and it was cause i do sh1t :). Check out Avast, or Bitdefender.
And coming out of townshend you shoudl know how verse mike and myself is in i.t., if we say d file safe, it safe.
