(steups)

I declare bulls**t. If you guys are going to delude yourself like that and honestly believe that a piece of cloth is going to enhance your abilities by a significant amount to be declared an 'unfair advantage', and still say in the same breath that you don't buy the whole 'Air Jordans make you jump higher' counterargument, then go ahead. Believe with every fiber of your being that the Speedos won the medals for those atheletes. I'll be standing right over here where all of the normal people are.

I have an idea, though. Why don't you get two fat guys....on the very verge of obesity, find two speedos like those you described for them to try on and have them run a race? I'd sure like to see the so-called 'bouyancy' tackle 500 layers of blubber. But, if you say the speedos give them the advantage, then that shouldn't be a problem, right?

Then after that race, take the speedo away from the guy that wins, and let them race again.
And again.
And again.

If the guy with the speedo keeps coming out on top, even though he lost the first race, then sure, I'll buy it. If not, seriously? Come back to this planet we call Earth and buy yourself a nice piece of real estate on that which we call 'reality'.

I have yet to see one credible bit of evidence to remotely suggest that the speedos gave the world record holders a critical advantage.
And yes, contrary to what you think, it pretty much is a co-incidence that 21 of the 22 record holders wore those speedos. It's not as if the Speedo Fairy visited them the night before, had a few brewskis and then said drunk off of his arse:

"Here, try this Schpeedo. It's make you faster than a Nicaraguan donkey on crack and anabolic horse steroids *hic*"

Seriously, all I'm seeing is a bunch of circumstantial evidence. If you never went to law school and don't know what that means (I didn't either, but that's why Wikipedia and too much free time exist), it pretty much sums up that everything you've said was all one big ball of circumstance. So they happened to be wearing those Speedos. Did you check and see if perhaps the losers of the events were wearing the same Speedos? Hot DAMN, if that was so, then how...HOW could they have lost?

What about #22? He didn't wear one of those Speedos, and he still got a record. How did he muster that? Must be MAGIC!!

Yeah.
Seriously, I don't buy it. Quote all of the endorsements and promotional bull you want, but I still stand my grounds that a piece of cloth covering your dangling junk won't turn you into the Flash. You still have to train your arse off, you still have to compete against others in your class, and not for ONE second would you dare slack off when it all comes down to it.

Scream haxx all you want and beleive that those Speedos must be earning them medals. I guarantee the bigwigs at Speedos will milk people who think just like that for all they're worth until they can't even afford to buy AIR. As a matter of fact, since people are already thinking that, I'm sure they're sitting in a jacuzzi right now, laughing it up at the suckers who made them rich.

*sigh*  You too NEO, have missed the point.  Please read about the suit.  In swimming, even a marginal advantage
can shave as much as 2 seconds off your best lap time.  Two seconds is an ETERNITY in swimming. Comparisons
to other sports just don't 'hold water' here.

Let us agree on the fact that Phelps would swim circles around the competition regardless, but my main contention
is with the amount of old records being broken in such a short space of time.  Lets not bury our head in the sand here.

..and I agree, it won't turn you into The Flash (it would take you NEO, to go there), but it helps.

Alright alright, yes I just have a personal disliking for Ato so I was just venting.

Anyway let's forget about Phelps etc. I didn't make this thread for that lol

Bolt is a BOSSSS, the Jamaican women have me proud and don't even talk about Thompson the boy is on fire!!! The Caribbean is making this Olympics loads of EPIC WIN for the region.

I hope we continue to destroy in the relays, I am glad I was able to witness history in the making

Thanks for the title change laertes, sounds alot better.

Still amazes me that Bolt was in cruise control from about 80m to the finish line in the 100m and still broke the world record...

"Here, try this Schpeedo. It's make you faster than a Nicaraguan donkey on crack and anabolic horse steroids *hic*"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! You never fail to make me laugh NEO. NEVER!!!

*considers building speedo case for system to get 25K 3DMarks...*

By the way. Usain Bolt came from the future, where passa passa and level provision averted world war III. There  is no other logical explanation for his speed.
God is dead.

Well, I read the article.
And I'm even more convinced now that this whole 'Speedo' thing is complete nonsense.

Especially when given the last part.

Quote
But is this just a feeling? FINA, swimming's governing body, thinks so. It says there's no scientific proof that the Speedo LZR gives swimmers any edge, and it rejected calls from some in the sport to ban the technology.

But given the smashed records, the anti-LZR clamor is growing. Alberto Castagnetti, coach of the Italian national team, says the Speedo suit is a form of "technological doping." SwimNews.com reports that Forbes Carlisle, the legendary Australian swim coach, has written an open letter to swimming officials demanding they reconsider their decision.

Whether the Speedo suit conveys an actual physical advantage or a mere psychological one -- a "placebo effect" -- "swimming is being severely damaged," Carlile wrote.

Carlile also hit on another issue of concern: Money. The Speedo swimsuit is expensive -- $500 for us civilians -- and even more for competitive swimmers, who must wear new suits every 10th swim.

Olympic swimmers' suits are often provided by their national teams, which are in turn often sponsored by manufacturers. Nations sponsored by Speedo, then, are gaining an unfair advantage, some charge.

American swimmers will be wearing Speedo.

I think what's really damaging swimming is that people actually believe that the clothes really do make the man. I sure feel sorry for those athletes who busted their arse to please the fans and attain their dreams of getting a world record just for some idiots to say:

"It's not fair! You guys had an ADVANTAGE! Those Speedos should be banned! BUH BUH BUH BLUH BLUUUH!!!!ONE"

Everything else in that article was basically headlined by 'Speedo Says'.
Speedo says it gives you an advantage!
Now, Speedo says go jump off a cliff! You'll live! ^_^

Don't you guys realise that 'Simon Says' from a company's mouth is exactly what they'll say to sell their product, regardless of it being the truth or not? Basic salesman psychology, folks. I'm not going to doubt that it allows for greater flexibility and whatnot, but you still can NOT convince me that it's smashing world records for these athletes! Seriously, DAMMIT.

We had the fastest time overall in the 4 x 100m, I am really hoping that team gets a medal, in fact, i like Bolt eh.. But i want my Country to grab the Gold in this one.

Keston Bledman and Richard Thompson have great Careers ahead of them, and this may be the last chance for Burns Armstrong to get medals at the Olympics

I Agree, it would be nice to put our mark on these Olympics! Go T&T!!
