GTA IV
« on: May 02, 2008, 01:50:11 PM »
At first you may be thinking... there is a thread for this already in the console gaming forum, and you'd be COMPLETELY RIGHT. HOWEVER what I am about to post is of more relevance to the PC version of this HOTT title:

GTA smashes sales records

We just wanna be bad

By INQUIRER Newsdesk: Friday, 02 May 2008, 12:59 PM

GRAND THEFT AUTO IV looks set to become the fastest-selling computer game in the short history of fast-selling computer games.

The controversially-criminal romp flogged 609,000 copies on its first day of release, ringing tills to the tune of £24.4million ($48.5 million).

It beat equally controversially-criminal romp GTA: San Andreas, into second place. That title sold 501,000 copies in 24 hours in October 2004.

And retailers report sales have held up all week.

The game appeared on both Playstation and Xbox at the same time but has struggled to run at all on some varieties of hardware.

Rockstar has said it is working on a fix.

Disc-counters at Chart Track said the game not only notches up the highest sales for any game in its first 24 hours, it also outsold anything that came before it on either PS3 and Xbox.

It beat Gran Turismo into second place on the PS3 and even overhauled Microsoft's Halo 3 on the 360.

Wow...but it was never really in doubt.  The record next to fall?  Halo 3's one week, $300 million haul.

No denying that the GTA franchise is gaming brilliance but.....

Is it only me that thinks it's a sad day when a game called "Grand Theft Auto" is breaking every sales record on the planet?

Needless to say, on a more sobering note, that game is going to find it's way into the hands of kids all over the globe.

locally it'll be much harder unless they have modded xbox360's, I done see so many parents who totally disregard the M rating cause the child says he has to have it, only to come back and complain after being warned.

Rumor is pc release is set for November

The only sad thing, IMHO, is that some sales are from parents buying the game for their underage kids. Also, I find it strange that games are put under so much more scrutiny than movies. You will find underage kids in R-rated movies very often yet a video game that is rated M is somehow different or worse.

yea but the kids watching the 18+ movies are the ones sneaking in and or hiding to watch them when parents arent around....

the kids parents are allowing them to play the GTA... which is kinda weird...

At movietowne today i saw little kids around 9-11 years old salivating over the copies of GTA:IV....with their parents right there...its sad....

but yea..bottom line...same damn thing...

Yea, I agree, parents of today are like adolescents themselves, so it's basically do what you want, when you want kinda thing, no consequences...Evident by Neo's post about GTA and the 8 year old stealing the Grnadmother car because he was mad at his mother...PFFT...back in the day is BLOWS!!! today the 'rents will basically go to jail for even touching the kid with a feather. Rubbish!

But peoples, I dont know how else to say this, but VIOLENT GAMES DOES NOT MAKE ONE VIOLENT.

Its a matter of the individual's personality, they way they were brought up.

Dragged up children...more likely to confuse the line between fiction and reality...brought up children, have a greater sense of the difference between the two.
