GTA 4 plagued with bugs

Console round-up PS3 suffers more than Xbox 360

By Dean Pullen: Tuesday, 29 April 2008, 2:59 PM

IT SEEMS PS3 owners are suffering some GTA 4 blight of their own, after the infamous prostitute-bashing game was leaked early by pirates on the Xbox 360.

Several readers have emailed the INQ to report that their copies of GTA 4 on PS3 cannot be installed to the hard-drive on their consoles, even after a factory reset and reformat of the device. Other users have reported crashes after successfully installing the game.

Similar tales have popped up on the official Playstation forums, Digital Spy, GTA Forums, AVS Forums, and many more.

To begin with, users believed that only 60GB-launch consoles were suffering from the problems but, since these first systems reported errors, non-launch 60GB and 20GB console users have also reported problems. PS3 Forums has started a poll showing that it isn't restricted to one type of SKU here.

Someone on the Playstation forums contacted Sony support and received this answer: "The Rockstar tech guy said that they are looking at the image that was sent out for the PS3 disc and they'll post onto the official Rockstar forums when a fix comes up, which he said would hopefully be soon."

Another reported that the Canadian support offices were being plagued by callers: "A friendly English bloke claims he was getting hammered with issues, and he is leaving work in 25 minutes."

There is currently no official response from Rockstar.

Some Xbox 360 owners are also reporting problems, though the situation doesn't seem quite as bad as that of the PS3. One user is reporting crashing and odd texture problems on the GTA Forums.

There are similar reports that a few Xbox 360 consoles have RROD'd when playing GTA IV, but this is hardly unexpected news...

Granted no one is perfect and the game is huge but considering that this game was already delayed and the number of users reporting this error, seems very sloppy on Rockstar's part.

Seconded. And as you all know, the pc version, without fail, is always better, so it will be worth the wait.

My thoughts exactly...

Well for the time being I won't be jumping on the GTA wagon til this is addressed...

I'm still gonna take the chance, the 40GB seem the least prone to it.

Why is this game getting 10/10 with all the freezing and bugs etc. Are they saying this game is on par with game like bioshock, half life 2 etc.
What is revoluntionary or new about the game. It updated it graphics and physics, made characters finally swim and copied cover shooting systems from other games.
8.5 at best.

OK...I got my copy yesterday and put that baby right into my Xbox 360 Disc tray, closed the tray and waited for it to load..
All I have to say is OMFG!!!!!

*Spoiler Alert

From the beginning of the game, after the typical GTA load screen where they show various characters in the game but in painted form, the cut scene begins at the docks where the main character gets off the ship and is greeted by his cousin, the scene is flawless and dialogue intreguing, I forgot I was playing GTA and thought I was watching a movie. The presentation is great.

After the cut scene the game loads flawlessly to the car in which you and your cousin both get into as he tells you to drive him to his "Mansion" LOL. Anyways that is where you learn the controls for driving etc as with every GTA. First off the bat there are ALOT of radio stations to choose from, and as Shiv said "Trinidad" gets a shout out...

I don't want to bore you any further with my descriptions so i will give you my opinion of the game so far;

1. Great Improvement in Graphics (Obviously due to the Next Gen Power)
2. Great Improvement in character movements. No more unrealistic leaping in the air, Jumps are totally believable, walking is a smooth fluid motion etc..
3. GPS is included in some of the cars, IT TALKS! giving you directions as you drive
4. Great Music Selections
5. Character development and storyline so far is going great, I am really into this game.
6. 16 Player ONLINE matchmaking, deathmatch etc..
7. Character can Swim yes, but that was started in GTA San Andreas, but the Water effects are MUCH improved.
8. The car damage in the game is amazing, dents, lights etc...
9. You can now bust the window to break into cars and tapping the buttons can hot wire the car faster.
10. The wanted system for the cops is different, there is a range given around you and in order to lose the wanted level you have to get out of the WANTED ZONE indicated on the map.

The list goes on but I am still getting into the meat of the game, so I will leave you guys to judge for yourselves once you get your hands on this amazing game.

P.S. Little Children should not be anywhere NEAR this game as the profanity and cursing is RAMPANT. Don't say I didn't warn you. LOL
