^^^ ENT!!?

As i've said before Slaming, these 'netbooks' fill a niche that people didn't know existed
until Asus brought us the EeePC.  Somehow it just adequately fills that gap between
smartphone/PDA and full-fledged laptop.  There are may instances where I have been loathed
to pull out my 17-inch Dell when the EeePC was able to 'do the do' quite nicely.

It also makes a great second or backup laptop, and a kickass portable multimedia machine.

Plz I'm still sticking to my guns, i'll rather have a all in one system which has multifunctionality than a one trick pony just my opinion, but you know the saying different strokes for different folks.

...which is why I will now be getting the Asus 1000H.  Read some reviews.  You'll find that its quite capable of more than
one trick.

...and at 700 US that S101 is a kinda hard sell, especially as the 1000H have such better specs.
It is pretty though.  I like that 'champagne' colour the most.

Just when I'm on the eve of finally ordering either a MSI Wind, or Asus 1000H, along comes this little beauty:

The Samsung NC10

Read more about it here.

Based on the reviews, Samsung seems to have nailed it...improving on some of the little things that
the MSI Wind, and the Asus 1000H may have neglected.  The specs of all three are identical, save for the
card readers, and the screen quality.  Battery life tops out at around a stellar 7 hrs.

...and blue is my favourite colour, so I'm immediately drawn to it. :)

The MSI Wind currently retails on Amazon for $429.99 US, while the Asus 1000H, goes for $479.99 US.
The Samsung NC-10, goes for a dollar less than the Asus, at $478.99 US.

Now, the overall build quality and screen of the Samsung is the best overall of the three, but the MSI makes
a compelling case with its superior 802.11 draft N Wi-Fi, which the others lack.  Also the MSI's card reader can
read/write to Sony MS/MS Pro cards (4-in-1), while the others can only use SD/SDHC/MMC (3-in-1).
All three get the *Arcman Approved* stamp, but that doesn't make the choice any easier, although
good sense seems to lean me towards the MSI.

* sigh *

Decisions, decisions.....

Just got my hands on a Dell Mini 9 to play up with in the lab.
Here it is next to my MSI Wind...

What immedialety struck me was the size (after all its a 9-inch screen).
Overall, the Mini 9 just screams quality.

I like it, but its a tad small for personal use.
As a work machine in the field though...hell yeah.

This is an 'evaluation' unit, but I hope the boss buys one for each of the techs. :happy0203:

The Dell models seem to just be a bit expensive for the price, but I'm sure they have good build quality...

*patiently waits for netbooks with the ION (i.e. switchable graphics) platform to come down in price, preferably sub $500 US level...*

The price on that new model, even though it's slim, is a sure sign that manufacturers are going in definitely the wrong direction...I can't see this being a great success because of the price point. Anything past $500 US, it just becomes that much less attractive, unless if it brings a considerably greater level of horsepower to the table.

I certainly wont pay over $450 for any netbook.  At $450 US and over, you're veering into cheap notebook territory.
